Letters I want Tom Savage to represent me Although I have owned a home in Sussex County for over 30 years, I just recently moved here full time as a permanent resident when my company closed down its operation. For all these years I have watched Sussex County grow from a pleasant rural agri- cultural area to the current mess it is becoming today. Until I moved here full time I didn't realize all the problems facing this area and the poor job our local, county and state government has done in planning and preparing for its growth. I admit I haven't been involved in politics as much as I could have r should have been over the yea, but recently I've tried to make up for that shortcoming. I found out that a man I have known for many years, Tom Sav- age, was so disappointed with the ways things were going in Sussex County, he decided to throw his hat in the ring to run for the 18th Senatorial District seat. I (joking- ly, but seriously)called Tom and asked him what he intended to do when he was elected to make things better. In a very serious and friendly tone Tom offered to meet with me to discuss the real issues. We met at a friend's house. Unlike many candidates, Tom didn't just ask for my vote as a friend, but rather asked me to lis- ten to his position and his oppo- nent's (Gary Simpson) position. Tom made it very clear he did not expect my vote as a friend, nor would it disrupt our friendship if I decided to vote for his opponent. Tom's positions are clear as al- ways. He believes our area and our state need positive changes and he is willing to work to deliv: er that change much harder than his opponent. Well, I not only listened, but I decided to get more involved. I offered to go door-to-door cam- paigning with Tom to see what the voters thought. I must admit even though it ws lot of exercise which I needed (walking 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and sometimes until 7 p.m), I also learned a lot listening to voters' questions and Tom's answers. Tom is the most knowledgeable, energetic, experienced and enthu- siastic candidate I have ever known. On the other hand, I have tried to learn more about Mr. Simpson, but there doesn't seem to be much information available - I don't mean that rudely or disre- spectfully, but I just couldn't find much information on what he's accomplished over the last four years in Dover. I'm voting for Tom Savage, not because he's a friend, but because he's a fighter who's not afraid to discuss the issues openly and most important, he gets out to meet the people. Tom Savage is the kind of Senator I want in Dover representing me and de- fending my interests in the 18th Senatorial District that includes Milford, Lewes, Long Neck, and part of Rehoboth and many of the surrounding communities. However you decide to vote, I hope you remember to vote Nov. 2. John A.
