YMCA preps for youth basketball The Sussex Family YMCA has announced the beginning of its 24th season of youth basketball. The league will be divided into three co-ed divisions: grades 1-3, 3-5, 5-7 and 7-9. The season will consist of weekly practices begin- ning in late November with games beginning in January. Registration is now open - the early bird deadline is Nov. 8. Sign up now to make the early bird rates. Scholarships also are available. Volunteer coaches, assistant coaches, referees and scorekeep- ers also are needed. For more information, call Sheridan Parsons at 296-YMCA, or stop by the YMCA off Church Street in Rehoboth Beach. Sporting clay shoot to benefit scholarship The Third Annual Sporting Clay Shoot & Lunch to benefit the Dr. Christopher S. Herring Scholar- ship Fund will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21 at Owens Station Range in Greenwood. Entrance fee is $50 for shooters. Event includes food, beverages and a 50/50 raffle. For non-shoot- ers, a lunch-only donation is $8. A Chinese auction will feature art- work, a fishing trip, hunting gear and much more. The Christopher S Herring Scholarship is awarded annually to a Delmarva student attending Palmer College Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. The scholarship is named for the late Lewes chiro- practor Dr. Christopher Herring, a Palmer graduate who was an avid sportsman and conservationist.
