CaPe Gazette NEWS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15- MONDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2010 35 Letters )) Coatiaul from page 34 "shoe is on the other foot" syn- drome that springs to life when one side loses its power and the other takes over. ' Rich Collins and his Positiy e Growth Alliance were comfy ozy with the Republicans becaus@ of the landowner connections ad the good old boy network of de- velopers that prevailed in the Leg- islature when they were in pc wer. The desk drawer veto was re dily used to stop any legislation at might benefit the average, ev ry- day citizen trying to survive i l dif- ficult times. As Kermit the Frog once said, "It ain't easy being green," and th it was so true in Delaware. Reld- less of what Mr. Collins might say, he and his group are pro-develop- ment, regardless of the cost to I the environment and to people al ready living in areas they (or friends or members) wish to de- velop. They readily supported Mark Bak - er of Baker Petroleum becaus they did not want an active sup- porter of protecting the envirOn- ment like Joan Deaver to get on the Sussex County Council. Iti might prove a hindrance to them getting their way, They are not just active on a local level but | their main concern right now the control of the state Legislature so they can get back to the way it was before when the Republic_ns controlled everything. Like I said, the "landed gent. ' of Delaware, the Terry Strines, :the Gerald Hockers, the landowners, the developers, the business own- ers who want no restrictions, wide-open development, no con- trol and ultimately no responsibil- ity for the ongoing overdevelop- ment of the beautiful eastern side of Sussex County, want to regain control. They have seen the citizenry rise up. They see it in the local council and want very much toget control back. Mr. Collins and his group may think the citizens of this county are a bunch of sheep being led by the pied piper, but I have seen how the average citizen feels and I am most certainly one of them. All we have to do is re- member what you have said in the past and what you are saying in your so-called"exposf" and then ask ourselves, What's in it for them to involve themselves in the politics of our county and of our state? What's in for them to work against an entire political party? If Mr. Collins has one expos6 on a Republican,. I might., have to recgn- sider, but I am willing to bet that every member of his target group is a Democrat, so I hope every voter who listens to this so-called exposf, simply look aroundi and ask what is in it for them (The Positive Growth Alliance) and | think about that before you decile to believe the slant Rich Collins | will use. Sadly, there is stall no cure for this devastating neuromuscular condition. Death is the only guarantee and in its ad- vanced stages, costs can wipe out a family's entire savings. Each year the walk has become more successful, both n raising aware- ness and generating increased funds for research - both essential in this fight. This was the year that ALS be- came personal for me as my beloved husband was diagnosed in February. Since that time, we have been humbled by the out- pouring of support from the com- munity.
