The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, located across from Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hos- pital for Children in Wilmington, first opened with 17 guest rooms in 1991. A small expansion added 10 guest rooms in 1999, and in 2005 a 23,000-square-foot addi- tion added 23 additional guest rooms and the ability to serve a total of 50 famih'es a night. The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware provides a safe, afford- able home away from home to families of seriously ill, chroni- cally ill or injured children who are being treated at area hospi- tals. Sixty-four percent - or 531 of the families who stayed at Ronald McDonald House - came from Sussex County in 2008. "My wife Carmen and I will for- ever be thankful for the services of the Ronald McDonald House," said Mervin Brittingham.
