64 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15 - MONDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2010 BUDDY FEST WELCOMES DOWN ,SYNDROME FAMILIE:S THE 5TH ANNUAL Buddy Walk was held Saturday, Oct. 9, in Rehoboth Beach. More than 1,000 walkers de- scended on the Bandstand to raise funds for several national and local Down syndrome associations. The Bud- dy Walk-was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Today, the Buddy Walk program is supported , nationally by NDSS and organized at the local level by parent support groups, schools and other organizations and in- dividuals. Local organizers Dennis and Sharon- lee Diehl brought the Buddy Walk to Rehoboth Beach as a way to welcome Sharonlee's brother, David Samson, into the community. David, who at age 55 had lost his mother, has Down syn- drome. Shown are the Diehls at the.
