66 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, October 17 - October 23, 1997 Libby York Trio to perform at Blue Moon during festival Libby York and her Trio will play at the Blue Moon Restaurant during Jazz Festival Weekend, Friday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Oct. 18, from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Libby York's stylish vocals are reminiscent of June Christie and Rosie Clooney, and she has been the featured vocalist at many New York City jazz clubs and at the Starlight Roof of the Waldorf Astoria. York is a long-time resi- dent of Rehoboth Beach and was one of the original owners of the Back Porch Cafe. York will be accompanied by jazz pianist David Berkman. Berkman is a New York-based jazz pianist who has performed with many well-known recording artists, and has recently toured with the Tom Harrell quintet. He is currently a member of the Cecil McBee Band, the Eliot Zigmund Trio and tours regularly as a leader or sideman in the United States, Europe and Japan. Pat O'Leary will accompany York on acoustic base. O'Leary is based in New Jersey, and has made appear- ances with many big bands. He has played at Carnegie Hall, and has had soundtrack performances with Lionel Hampton on "Poor Butterfly" and in the hip-hop film, "Fly by Night." KC & Sunshine band to appear at UD Oct. 31 You can "Shake Your Booty" at the Bob Carpenter Center on Friday, Oct. 3 l, when KC and the Sunshine Band performs as part of Home- coming festivities at the University of Delaware. The concert begins at 8 p.m. with special guests, The Marvelettes. KC and the Sunshine Band is one of the most recognizable bands from the disco craze from the 70s. The band is known for such hits as "Get Down Tonight," and "That's the Way (I Like It)." Other number one singles include "Boogie Shoes" and "I'm Your Boogie Man." Czech and Slovak festival scheduled for Oct. 19 The Czech and Slovak Heritage Association will sponsor the Czech and Slovak Festival on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 1 to 6 p.m. in Parkville, Md. The festival will be held at Baltimore 45 Hall, lo- cated on Putty Hill Avenue. The event will feature Slovak Dancers from New York; a gymnastic ex- hibit by Sokol Baltimore; a Czechoslovak dinner, including roast pork, dumplings and sauer- kraut; Czech beer; vendors and much more.
