CAPE GAZETI'E, Friday, October 17 - October 23, 1997. 71 Seaside Nature Center offers variety of October events The Seaside Nature Center, lo- cated in Cape Henlopen State Park, is offering the following programs during the month of Oc- tober: Autumn Hawk Watch - Sun- days in October, 9 a.m. to noon. Help staff members count and record migrating hawks, falcons, eagles and vultures at the Cape. Last year, volunteers identified and counted hawks, merlins and other raptors. Meet at the Nature Center. Hike Through History - Satur- day, Oct. 18, 10 a.m. Participants will take a two-mile hike from the Nature Center to the Observation Tower and discover nearly 2,000 years of human history on the Cape. To Bee or Not To Bee! Satur- day, Oct. 18, 2 p.m. Visitors will explore the exciting world of the honeybee, learn about their impact on humans and enjoy a honey- tasting. Tracks in the Sand - Sunday, Oct. 19, 2 p.m. Participants will take a hike in the walking dunes and search for the tracks and signs left by the elusive creatures who dwell there. Little Assawoman Bay Canoe Trip - Sunday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Novice to experienced pad- dlers will enjoy this peaceful pad- dling adventure on the placid wa- ters of Little Assawoman Bay. Along the way, paddlers will dis- cover the mosaic of autumn colors and explore meandering salt marsh creeks in search of migrat- ing waterfowl. There is a limit of 14. Preregistration required fee of $16. Eighth Annual Halloween Spook Trail - Friday, Oct. 24, Sat- urday, Oct. 25, and Sunday, Oct. 26. Fantasy Trail 6-8 p.m., $2; Trail of Terror, 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., $4. Kids will enjoy their fa- vorite fairy tale characters along the Fantasy Trail lit by twinkling jack-o'-lanterns. After dark, ghouls and goblins invade the sea- side trail to scare the daylights out of older kids and adults. Spectacular Seabirds Wednesday, Oct. 29, 8 p.m. Take a trip along the Delaware coast from Indian River inlet to Cape Henlopen in search of migrating seabirds by the thousands.
