Sarah Greene photos Big Brothers, Big Sisters take a ride aboard the ferry Members of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Sussex County took an excursion on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Saturday, Sept. 22 so that big and little brothers and sisters and their fami- lies could get to know each other better. This is the first time they organization has hosted such a trip and they hope to make it an annual affair. There is presently a 60-child waiting list of youngsters, 50 of them boys, seeking their own big brother or sister to spend some time together. For more information about volunteering call 856-2918. Michael Short photo Evaleah Barr marks lOOth birthday Evaleah Barr celebrated her 100th birthday on Oct. 5. Barr is a native of George- town and she was joined by a daughter and three grand- daughters for her birthday party. Her daughter is Louise Burton and her granddaugh- ters are Marti Wyatt, Rachel Cowart and Barbara Turek. Barr also has three great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren. The former deputy pro- thonotary joked and laughed, acting far younger than her 100 years. Barr is now a resi- dent at Brandywine Assisted Living At Seaside Point where she is known for her sense of humor, even don- ning an "Over the Hill Bra" gag birthday gift over her clothes after joking about its size. "She told us she didn't want anybody to know about her party, but then she told everybody," laughed Turek. Aove left, Jenny Payne of Lewes, with her match, Matthew from Long Neck, do a "high five" in their excitement over the ferry ride.
