Each classroom contains a 90- minute walking tour through the forest guided by natural resource educators. "During the Woodland Class- room, students, teachers and chaperones are exposed to many exciting building blocks of the forest," said Dot Abbott-Donnei- ly, Extension Agent for Renew- able Resources. "Everyone expe- riences the sights, sounds, smells and different textures offered each step along the classroom trail." Individuals learn about nature's air conditioner, where squirrels live in the winter and summer, what happens to frogs when the rains stop, why ,some trees have odd-shaped leaves and spiny bark, where insects hide to protect themselves from the sun, why leaves turn color in the fall, how pine trees grow from seeds and much more. The Woodland Classroom's 32 trail stops are designed to teach a specific lesson, but many more are learned as students venture around the loop.
