CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, October 31 - November 6, 1997 - 67 Art Mound Town in Lewes set Nov. 2 When the fourth annual Art Around Town in Lewes kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m., those'taking in the tour of the town will meet many familiar lo- cal artists as well as several who are first-time participants in the event. More than 50 artists displaying a broad range of media and ex- hibits, will be set up in more than a dozen Lewes restaurants, gal- leries and shops. A number of artists new to Art Around Town will exhibit an array of art media. They include block prints by Pam Carr; photographs, using early processing techniques, by Jeanie Greenhaugh; hand-carved and painted fish by Bob Richardson; and calligraphy by JoAnne De- Fiore. According to Art Around Town Chairman Tony Boyd-Heron, this year's event has seen a few changes beyond new artwork and artists: "In the past, Art Around Town was sponsored by the Sus- sex County Arts Council. This year, however, the Arts Council decided that it would be unable to support the annual Lewes event." Boyd-Heron met with Mike Tyler, chairman of Art Around Town for its first three years, and artist Julie Molyneux; the three worked out a Salute to Veterans dinner dance set for Rehoboth Nov. 11 CHEER will hold its first annu- al "Salute to Veterans" dinner dance in the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will include presentations of unit flags, a flag ceremony, a full buffet dinner and entertainment. A dance band will perform the kind of music popular with veterans of all ages, and a large dance floor will be available. "All veterans who live in the area are invited to join us," said Florence Mason, CHEER nutri- tion manager. "For them, dinner will be free. They need only pro- vide proof of service. Veterans' spouses, family and acquaintances will be asked to make a $7 dona- tion. It's our way of saying thanks for making it possible for us to live free in this wonderful coun- try." All veterans organizations are invited to bring their American flag and unit flag and a possible color guard to participate in the opening ceremony, which will consist of a parade of veteran's or- ganizations. Tables will also be provided for organizations that would like to share veteran history and memoirs at no cost; however, there is a lim- it of one table per organization and reservations must be made in advance. Reservations for the event or tickets will be available at local CHEER centers or by calling 856- 5187, Ext. 137 for Linda, or Ext. 133 for Florence. plan to keep the popular event go- ing. Within the span of just over a month, the committee lined up locations, contacted artists and enlisted the assistance of Rehoboth Art League Director Nancy O'Brien, who agreed to handle the printing and mailing costs. Merchants participating in Art Around Town will offer hors d'oeuvres and light refreshments to visiting tour-goers who will meet featured artists and view and discuss their work. Fliers are post- ed in Lewes and tour maps are available at most Lewes shops and at the Lewes Chamber of Com- merce. An original watercolor, "Dunewalk," by Breck Stringer will be awarded as a door prize. Entry blanks will be available on Sunday at participating locations. They must be deposited at the Peninsula Collection Gallery on Savannah Road before the tour closes at 5 p.m. Art Around Town is sponsored by participating Lewes merchants and the Rehoboth Art League.
