68 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, October 31 - November 6, 1997 "Razzle Dazzle" opens at La Rosa Negra in Lewes Oct. 31 As soon as the goblins are gone on Halloween night, Razzle Daz- zle, a brand-new after-dinner cabaret revue will begin its run at La Rosa Negra restaurant in Lewes. The show, an original mu- sical revue all about "show biz," will play four performances: Oct. 31, Nov. 1, 7 and 8. The creative process - developing the concept, recording the score with the sound of an acoustic grand piano and re- hearsing - is over, and the compa- ny is heading for opening night. Directed by Fay Jacobs, Razzle Dazzle stars Margaret Allman, J.B. McLendon and Eric C. Peter- son. Allman and Peterson per- formed at La Rosa Negra's first after-dinner cabaret this summer. McClendon is on loan from New York where he's been seen in nu- merous cabaret venues, and this will likely be his last series of per- formances in the Cape Region, as he relocates to New York City. According to Jacobs, the show features a mix of up-tempo num- bers," ballads and comedy with classic show tunes as well some obscure words and music - plus choreography (including a tap number!) designed for the small cabaret stage. Razzle Dazzle fea- tures music from show biz leg- ends like Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and Noel Coward, and songs from shows like "A Chorus Line," "42nd Street" and more. The revue is a company effort, with Jacobs and Peterson being credited with the format and dia- logue, while Allman and McLen- don are handling musical direc- tion and choreography. Jacobs and Bonnie Quesenberry share the producer's duties. Jay Crowder, who has a Ph.D. in pi- ano performance, is helping with the score. "We went into the studio with an electronic grand piano which we plugged into a computer and sang along with it. With the flip of a switch we could change the key and tempo of any song and then put the finished product on a CD, which we will use as our mu- sical accompaniment," Jacobs ex- plained. Seating for Razzle Dazzle is 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 7; 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 and 8. Tickets are $I0. Call La Rosa Negra at 645-1980 to make reservations.
