30 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, November 6 , November 12, 1998 Church Notes Seaside Jewish Community to install Torah The Seaside Jewish Community will install its new Torah with a Torah Celebration Weekend. The Torah will arrive on Friday, Nov. 6, which will be celebrated with a Shabbat, led by guest Rabbi Robert Layman, at 7 p.m, in All Saints&apos; Church Hall, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach. On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Torah will be installed with a 9:30 a.m. celebration, also at All Saints'. They will conclude the weekend with a Havdalah service at 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at All Saints'. The Torah is a parchment scroll containing the whole body of Jewish reli- gious literature, including the first five books of the Bible. For details, call Lynne Chichi at 644-2209. Buddhism to be explored in Lewes Nov. 8 The-Buddhist perspective on acceptfng change and loss as a pat h to spiritual gr0wth will be the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware's topic on Sunday, Nov. 8. The Rev. Paul Hull will preach the sermon, "Up in the Air, or Who Pulled the Rug?" at the 10:30 a.m. service in Lewes Middle School. Evensong Service set for Westminster Church A choral Evensong service will be presented at Westminster Presby- terian Church at 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8. In announcing the upcoming service, the Rev. John Dean said that he is delighted to be able to offer this special program to the Rehoboth community and said he regards such a service as a lovely way to end the day. The service will introduce to the public Westminster's new music director, David P. Schueck II of Chadds Ford, Pa. Joining the Westminster choir will be four soloists from Wilmington - Laurel Christie, Ann McTaggart, George Christie_ and Dana Robertson. Featured will be the music of Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Organist for the service will be church organ- ist Gene Yenni, who is a well-known music instructor in voice, piano and organ. Mariner's Dorcas Circle sets bazaar Nov. 13-14 The Dorcas Circle of Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church will hold their annual Christmas Bazaar on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14. Hours are 9 a.m. - 7 p.m., Friday; 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday. The church is located on Central and Atlantic avenues in Ocean View. The bazaar will offer Christmas ornaments, pi!ows, quilts, knits, jew- elry, toy soldiers, vests, a bake table and much more, many made by Dorcas ladies. Former Hollywood artist to appear in Lewes Alan McGill, who for many years was one of the most recorded soloists in the field of religious music, will present a unique program of Song and Christian Testimony, at 6:45 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, at First Baptist Church of Lewes, 1001 Kings Highway;. Since a conversion changed the course of his life almost 50 years ago, McGill has recorded numerous singles and 23 albums, with "Every Step of the Way" .becom- ing the fastest selling sacred record in America. Over the years, McGill's durable baritone, rich tone, diction and effortless style have helped him to maintain his popularlity. Everyone is invited to attend this informal Christian musical program, which is somewhat reminiscent of the '50s and '60s and considered by many to be "The Shortest Ninety Minutes on Record." There is no admission charge. Seaside Baptist Church starts Sunday School A new Sunday School for all ages is now offered at 9 a.m., at Seaside Baptist Church, which meets at Lewes Senior Center, Nassau Park. The worship follows at 10 a.m. and the current sermon series is "Walking Through the Bible, A Book Each Sunday." The focus is on God's Word, so everyone is encouraged to dress casually. The church also of- fers Bible Study at 10 a.m. on Mondays, at 17 Bristol Way, Sussex East, as well as at 7 p.m., on Thursdays, at RR 17, Box 52-F.
