Police.solve on robbery; seek help on second case Delaware State Police troopers arrested one man for a Nov. 2 rob- bery at the Tiger Mart and are iw vestigating a second robbery that occurred the next day at Rehoboth Beach Little League park. Police arrested Clifford M. Shockley short- ly after a rob- bery, Nov. 2, at the Tiger Mart on Route 1 in Rehoboth Beach. Ac- cording to Cpl. Bruce Harris, state police SHOCKLEY spokesman, Shockley parked his vehicle in the parking lot, then entered the store at 1:54 a.m. He allegedly took a bottle of motor oil, left the store and told the clerk he would be back in with the money. He then returned to the store for cigarettes and left again. "The clerk, becoming suspi- cious of Shockley, wrote down his vehicle's tag number," said Harris. "Shockley entered the store a third time and implied he had a gun. He demanded two cartons of ciga- rettes." As soon as Shockley had them, he fled from the store. Police put out a general broad- cast with a description of the vehi- cle and found him in the West Re- hoboth area. When they searched his vehicle, they found the cartons of cigarettes, other store merchan- dise, 1.2 grams of marijuana and heroin residue. They charged him with second- degree robbery, shoplifting, pos- session of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Shockley, 43, of Bridgeville,. was remanded to Sussex Correc- tional Institution in default of $4,500 cash-only bail, pending further court action. Police seek help The next day, a second robbery occurred at approximately 9:48 p.m., at the Little League park on Sussex 271 in Rehoboth Beach. Harris said an 18-year-old was ap- parently attempting to buy mari- juana from two men, but they dis- played an unknown weapon and demanded the victim give them cash. "The victim was assaulted by one of the suspects and hit on the head," said Harris. "He received a laceration on the left side of his head, as well as abrasions and contusions to both knees." However, said Harris, the victim declined medical treatment for his injuries. After the assault, the two men fled in the victim's red Ford Escort. Police are asking for public as- sistance in identifying and locat- ing the twomen. One is described as white, about 5-feet-8-inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. He has short, sandy-brown hair.
