CAPE,GAZETt'E, Frida No4.Nov:-14;2002 --83 Submitted photo RBHS distributing historic plaques The Rehoboth Beach Historical Society (RBHS) continues to offer historic plaques to owners of buildings within the city that have been around since the turn of the 20th century. RBHS member Tim Spies, left, with the help of local histori- ans, has been helping to identify 126 buildings that were built before 1920. Spies helps Jack and Marjory Melniek, owners of 3 Columbia Avenue, to place one of the historic plaques on their summer home. Jack Melnick, an Arlington, Va. attorney and former state legislator, explained that during the exten- sive renovations and additions, they have preserved the fine woodwork and beams in the original two-bedroom cottage that dates back to 1912, and has a distinctly Dutch influence. The house had originally been owned by the Wilson family and they bequeathed a number of old photographs of the cot- tage to the Meinicks. The house now features six bedrooms and three baths, with a large upstairs deck in the back that sports an ocean view. From the street, however, it is very dif- ficult to detect that the house has been expanded. The RBHS is selling the plaques at $50 for members and $75 for non-members and property owners may sign up for mem- bership when they purchase a plaque. Anyone seeking more information can call 227-4307. FEATHER ' & DOWN 1 Off St. Basil's Cathedral Egg Cobalt blue with gold decoration and a cut crystal top.
