Rated PG-13. * 8 Mile: The story of a young man struggling for his. identity amidst pressure from his contem- poraries in the 1995 hip-hop world of Detroit. Stars Eminem. Rated R. As Ford's lawyers began a vig- orous defense, they closely ques- tioned the husband. Waking Up in Reno: Two couples make the trip to Reno, Nevada to see a monster truck ex- travaganza. Their trip becomes a voyage of discovery as the pairs realize they aren't altogether faithful. Stars Patrick Swayze, ChaHize Theron, Billy Bob Thornton and Natasha Richard- son. Rated R. Moonlight Mile: A young man finds himself at a crossroads as his fianc6e suddenly dies. He is forced to decide if he should be a bereaved husband-to-be or take a chance with a new love interest. Stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon. Rated PG-i3. on trips with his girlfriend (whom he soon married), gifts, hotels, restaurants. Very little went into the daughter's trust fund. As the husband was caught in a number of lies under oath, Ford lawyers became convinced that the husband had strangled his wife, using the faulty air bag story as a cover up. His attorneys fought to keep this information out of the product liability suit; they were overruled by the trial judge who himself had concluded privately that the husband had killed his wife. Schiller also describes how the once close relationship between the wife's parents and their son- in-law deteriorated into bitter hos- tility. At considerable personal sacrifice, they had virtually raised their granddaughter while the husband traveled the world with his girlfriend-wife. At one point, he denied them access to their granddaughter. See what the guys get up toas the film plays to its insane ending. Rated R. Ghost Ship: A boat salvage crew discovers the remains of a too came to believe the husband had murdered their daughter. While Schiller at times has an annoying habit of inserting in- significant or extraneous informa- tion into his narrative, he does do a commendable job in giving readers a behind-the-scenes look, in easy to understand terms - how a deep pockets company like Ford fights product liability cases. Readers also get an eye-opening front seat view of the fierce, take- no-prisoners tactics by lawyers on both sides, fighting for their clients. It may not be pretty, but it's entertaining and informative. Schiller also highlights the stag- gering costs of these cases as bat- miles of lawyers, forensic experts, privat e investigator and expert long-lost passenger liner in the Bering Sea. The group must come to terms with the vessel's eerie past and its unearthly inhab- itants, Rated R. The Truth About Charlie: A young woman goes to Paris to di- vorce her husband, only to find out he's dead and their money is gone. Along comes mysterious Mark Waldberg, who claims her deceased spouse owed him a for- tune and that she is hiding the money. Rated PG-13. The Ring: A remake of one of Japan's highest grossing movies. "The Ring" centers on a female journalist who stumbles upon a mysterious videotape. Everyone who has seen the disturbing tape witnesses all get in on the act. The law rum representing the husband claimed they spent at least $700,000 on the case - faced with a possible murder charge, the hus- band dropped his lawsuit against Ford. Prosecutors eventually did not file charges against the hus- band because of insufficient evi- dence, In early 2002, the wife's parents filed a wrongful death suit against the husband in Cape May County. It is still pending. "Cape May Courthouse" is a fact-orient= ed, compelling account of a dra- matic and puzzling case. Its many twists and turns will keep readers turning the pages.
