Cape Gazette FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21 - MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2014 7S Event extends through second week of January Beginning with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, Peninsula Gallery will open its llth Annual Small Jewels Show featuring 24 artists present- ing smaller works of art in a variety of media including polymer, glass and metal jewelry, and holiday ornaments as well as paintings and blown glass, metal and wood sculptures. The exhibition introduces six new art- ists to the holiday exhibition. Ed Kidera, a sculptor who works with found metal objects, creates fantastic - as in fantasy- steampunk functioning objects. Brenda Kidera, new to the small jewels show, has been an artist in the gallery for the past year. She will present small oil paint- ings of farm and wild animals. Ramona Maziarz is a pen-and-ink artist who will present paintings set in nature's under- brush featuring trees, leaves and grasses. Jim Whalen, an award-winning North Carolina potter, will present a series of hand-thrown pots fired and polished with a marbled patterned surface. Matt Smith is a printer who uses an intaglio process on copper plates to- gether with hand-applied colored inks to produce lavish, color-rich images of sea animals and fish. Finally, Carol Edwards Evans is an artist who uses colored pencils to produce realistic country landscapes. Returning artists include Debbie Appleby, A1 Barker, Jill Basham, Beth Clark, Denise Dumont, Louise Gatanas, John Held, Doris Ingram, Victor Letonoff, Michelle Marshall, Mary Pritchard Steve Rogers, John Schisler, Maria Serafina and Nick Serratore. Returning artists also include Arden Bardol, a 2012 NICHE award-win- ning artist presenting jewelry in colorful polymers; fiber artist, Betsy Von Dreele, and Yan Dong Wang with ornaments in recycled metals. The show has become a tradition for the gallery, and this year the exhibition will extend through the holiday season into the new year until the second week of January. The Peninsula Gallery, 520 E. Savannah Road, is currently in its 18th year and presents fme art from more than 20 artists, monthly exhibits, and framing and restoration services.
