State unveils computerized job applications at Del Tech For two years the state has been working toward streamlining and improving the way it takes appli- cations from job seekers, and now that process can be used by Sus- sex Countians seeking state em- ployment. Announcing its newly comput- erized, one-stop job application system for state employment, state personnel office staffer Gre-. gory Chambers called the new system a "revolutionary" ap- proach to finding a job with any of the state's 15 agencies. Located at the DelTech Owens Campus in Georgetown, this pre- miere service will also be in oper- ation in Dover and New Castle County soon. Itallows job seekers to take a skills test, fill out an ap- plication and list any specific jobs they are seeking. Once that is done, the appli- cant's file is available to all agen- cies for review. It also allows per- sonnel staffers to review the ap- plication and route it where they think it may be of interest te agency directors. The applicant no longer will have to call the state to follow up on the progress of an application; the state will keep in contact with the applicant. Interviews will be scheduled by . state staffers and the applicant will be called. "We feel real good about this service," said Chambers. "It is more efficient, for the applicant and more efficient for our staff. We want people to come in and give it a try." Applications may be filled out daily at Owens Campus, and the computer room will be open Wednesday evenings until 8 p.m. and on Saturdays until noon.
