60 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, December 3 - December 9, 1999 Dennis Forney photo Thoroughgood's debuts new technology A whole new way of cooking was introduced by Thorough- good Appliances in Rehoboth Beach on Friday, Nov. 26, when the new General Electric Advantium stove was demonstrat- ed. General Electric product representative and area sales manager Mark Choinski said the new oven uses halogen lamps to cook food. "It gets hot in a hurry and provides the same results as conventional ovens in one quarter of the usu- al time," said Choinski. "Working people want quality food in a hurry and this oven does that. Unlike microwaves it browns everything. For example, it cooks a whole chicken in 25 minutes. It uses light from the halogen lamps to do the cooking. " The new Advantiums were just released to the market four weeks ago and are currently being distributed. Choinski said the units retail for $1,299 to $1,399. A $100 re- bate is available from General Electric until January of 2000. Thoroughgood's Appliances is located on Rehoboth Avenue next to the Royal Farms store. Shown with the Advantium display are (l-r) Bill Thoroughgood Jr., Dot Thoroughgood and Choinski. Comcast and Salvation Army launch holiday toy campaign On Nov. 21, Comcast Cablevi- sion of Delmarva Inc., in partner- ship with the Salvation Army, launched its annual holiday toy campaign. The toy drive brings in hundreds of new toys each holi- day season and has been a Com- cast tradition for over 10 years. The toys are distributed to the families of needy children through local Salvation Army offices. Toys that are donated must be new and have a minimum retail value of $10. Anyone wishing to participate in this cause may de- liver their toy to any Comcast lob- i by or give to a Comcast technician in the field. In the Cape Region, toys may be dropped off in Lewes at the Five Points Plaza. "Comcast is pleased to again join with the Salvation Army to brighten the holiday experience: for the less fortunate in our com- munity. To ensure the campaign's; success, Comcast will donate more than $ I00,000 of free adver- tising time to spread the word,'" said Brian A. Lynch, Vice presi- dent and general manager of- Comcast Cablevision of Delmarva Inc.
