A new shop in Lewes allows customers to change their hair length, hair col- or and even eye color without commitment. Beauty World, in Five Points Plaza next to the BP gas station on Route 1 in Lewes, offers af- fordable glamour for everyone who wants to shine as the holi- days approach. The store specializes in high- quality wigs, extensions, hair products and accessories for all ages and ethnicities. Owner Mei Lan also offers costume jewelry, nonprescription color eye con- tact lenses, purses, dresses and even a "butt booster," designed to enhance every derriere. "I'm trying to bring in more stuff," said Lan, who is looking to expand her stock and her clien- tele. Lan moved to the Cape Region from Washington state to be closer to her parents, who settled in Rehoboth about two years ago. She and her family moved to the United States from south China when Lan was 5. Lan now has two young daughters, one of whom often accompanies her in the store. Three-year-old Jonie can sometimes be found in the midst of wig stands and sparldy hairpins, sitting at a small table covered in Disney princesses, playing games on a laptop. "In the beginning, it's "dery hard to run a business," said Lan, whose store is off to a slow start since opening in late October. But with the holidays around the corner and repeat customers bringing in new people every day, business is looking up. "I have a friend who lives here that said there was no shop like this in the area," said Lan. To fred a store that sells an array of hair extensions and accessories, she said, people would have had to drive to Millsboro or Milford; Beauty World offers a more con- venient location, emphasizing the store sells more than just hair extensions. In spring, Lan said she hopes to start carrying mopeds in the store. She said she sees workers rid- ing their bikes everyday, and would like to offer a mode of transportation that is not as ex- pensive as a car and would not need gas. "I try to carry different stuff because just hair is too boring," Lan said. Lan offers a new 10-percent-off 645-7570. Beauty World is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. ,Sunday.
