cape Gazette ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT RIDAY' DECEMBER 3 - MONDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2010 ~9 f 11' f First State Ballet Theatre, Delaware's professional ballet company, returns to Delaware Technical & Community Col- lege, Owens Campus with its ninth annual performance of the beloved classical ballet. "The Nutcracker" at 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. U. This holiday presentation is the longest-running one in Sus- sex County. Dr. Ileana Smith, vice presi- dent and Owens Campus direc- tor, said, "The Owens Campus is delighted to have partnered with First State Ballet Theatre for nine years to make 'The Nutcracker' a tradition in our county. We're looking forward to another excit- ing and sold-out performance." First State Ballet Theatre Pres- ident Robert Grenfell said, '"The Nutcracker' is by far the world's most popular ballet. "The combination of Tchaikovsky's beautiful music, the familiar story, the exciting dancing of our professional com- pany and our beautiful costumes created in Russia make the this ballet a favorite with audiences of all ages. And, to keep our per- formances affordable, our fami- ly-friendly ticket prices remain at the same level as they were for our first Sussex County perform- ance in 2002. 'Another special aspect of this year's production is our collabo- ration with Sussex Dance Acade- my of Georgetown and Re- hoboth, whose students will per- form the Angels and Polichinelles variations in Act n under the direction of Kate Downes Walker," Grenfell said. The performance will take place in the college theater in the Arts & Science Center, located on Route 18 just west of George- town. General admission tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for stu- dents, children and senior citi- zens. General seating tickets are on sale now and may be purchased by calling 858-5475. The First State Ballet Theatre is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corpora- tion founded in 2000, whose mission is to present profession- al ballet performances to audi- ences throughout Delaware, to provide ballet training and per- formance opportunities to aspir- ing dancers, and to educate the Delaware dance audience of the future.
