28 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, December 11 -December 17, 1998 Houses of Worship Church Notes Seaside Jewish Community sets Hanukkah Party The Seaside Jewish Community will hold its Annual Family Hanukkah Party from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, at All Saints&apos; Parish Hall, Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration, learn to play the Dreidle, sing songs, make crafts and listen to stories. Refreshments will be served.The cost is $2.50 for children and $5 for adults. UUSD plans Hanukkah service on Dec. 13 The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD) will hon- or the spirit of Hanukkah at its 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, worship service at Lewes Middle School. Hanukkah is about Jewish family ritu- al, lighting the menorah, playing the dreidel game, eating latkes and at- tending synagogue on Shabbat, where the Haftarah is read from Hebrew scriptures. Interim Minister Paul Hull will preach the sermon "The Hanukkah Spirit to Reclaim the Season" and lead a member dedication ceremony to honor those who have indicated their intent to become charter members of UUSD. Christmas concert set by Seaside Baptist Church Pastor Charlie ,Arnold and the congregation of Seaside Baptist Church invites the public to a special Christmas concert with Bill Itzel, gospel recording artist and recipient of two Grammy and two Dove Award nominations, at 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, at Lewes Senior Center, Nas- sau Park, north of Five Points. From traditional carols to brand new contemporary Christmas songs, "Bill Itzel Christmas" is a solo, acoustic cantata that blesses and encourages the whole family. Also, Itzel will appear on the Seaside Baptist Church float, singing during the Rehoboth Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 12 stepping off at 6 p.m.. Long Neck U.M. Church slates holiday events Long Neck United Methodist Church's Christian education depart- ment will present its production of "The Birthday of a King," at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, in the church sanctuary. The Chancel Choir of the church will present its annual Christmas Cantata, at both the 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services on Sunday, Dec. 20. This year's cantata will be "A Celebration of Christmas" by Donald Moore and Ruth Elaine Schram. Everyon is invited to attend these events at the church, located on Long Neck Road at Route 24. Epworth sets pancake breakfast Dec. 12 Epworth U.M. Church will hold a "Belly-Buster" Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m., Saturday,Dec. 12, in the church hall, 20 Baltimore Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, to support tyhe church youth. Lessons and Carols set for All Saints' Dec. 20 In keeping with the increased focus on good music, members of All Saints' Parish will hold a special "Lessons and Carols" service at 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Av- enue, Rehoboth Beach, and all are welcome. Jack Schaffer, church mu- sician, reports that the choir will begin the service by singing the "Quempas Carol" from the four corners of the church sanctuary. "The Quempas goes round and it is a worshipful and beautiful Christmas cus- tom which dates back to the middle ages. the text is a reminder of the angels' hymn of praise and the joy of the shepherds," Schaffer said. The replude will be an appropriately festive composition by Flor Peeters en- titled "Entrata Festiva" for the organ, brass quartet and choir. Tom Tib- betts of Lewes will play the organ. The brass quartet will be two trum- pets, Glen Friedenwright of Ellendale and Tony Perone of Harring, and Dave Magnus of Milford and Michael Donovan of Dover on trombone. In addition to the carols, the choir will sing special anthems by Richard Dircksen, Hugo Jungst, Natalie Sleeth, Donald Bussro and Drummond Wolff. All Saints' Parish Rector James E.
