CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, December 19 - December 25, 1997 - 23 ? Those on hand for the Dec. 16 presentation of $17,000 from the Lewes-Rehoboth Association of Churches to Sussex County Habitat for Humanity are (l-r) Ron Trupp, Sussex Habitat pres- ident; Pearl Maull, church association president; Gladys Kleiss, association treasurer;, and Dutch Kelley, manager of the New Life Thrift Shop, which the church group operates. The as- sociation is currently seeking funds in an effort to build a new thrift shop on a parcel it re- 27 Terrace Road, Rehoboth Beach 227-3861 cently purchased. Association of churches gives funds to Sussex Habitat house parcel of ground behind Jiffy Lube on Route 1 near Lewes. They are "now seeking interest- free loans and donations, especial- ly from member churches, in an effort to raise between $175,000 and $200,000 to build a 6,000- square-foot new thrift shop. "We're bursting at the seams," at the Old Landing Road site, Kel- ley noted. "If everyone pitches in, we hope to have the funding so that we can start building in three or four months," he added. Member churches include St. George's AME, Lewes; St. Ed- mond's/St. Jude's Catholic, Re- hoboth-Lewes; St. Peter's Episco- pal, Lewes; Epworth United Methodist, Rehoboth; Bethel United Methodist, Lewes; All Saints'/St. George's Episcopal, Rehoboth-Angola; israel United Methodist, Lewes; Westminster Presbyterian, Rehoboth; Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Rehoboth; Conley's Methodist Chapel, An- gola; Groome Methodist, Lewes; Lewes Presbyterian; and Mt. Pleasant Methodist, Rehoboth. The Lewes-Rehoboth Associa- tion of Churches, which operates the New Life Thrift Shop on Old Landing Road north of Rehoboth Beach, recently donated funds to Sussex County Habitat for Hu- manity and is also in the process of raising funds to relocate the thrift shop at another location. The association of 14 churches of various denominations in the Cape Region donated $17,000 to Habitat toward the building of a house within the Cape Henlopen School District in 1998. In the three years of its existence, Sussex Habitat has completed three hous- es, one near Georgetown and two in Lincoln. They are presently building two houses in Selbyviile, which are expected to be complet- ed this coming spring, when they will begin work on the Cape Hen- iopen area house. New Life Thrift Shop is a major source of the church association's income to support its charitable work, and now, according to Dutch Kelley, thrift shop manag- er, the association has purchased a 0 "olidays are here.
