Rehoboth stores raise funds for charities with Beanie Babie TM raffles Meanie Babies TM may be next craze to sweep Cape Region By Trish Vernon The buying frenzy over ty Beanie Babies TM has reached a crescendo this holiday season with the search for the purple Princess Di rose-emblazoned ted- dy bear. Retailing for less than $10, "Beanie rM'' collectors across the country have been willing to go to any lengths and expense to ac- quire the Princess Di Beanie TM. In Rehoboth Beach, however, some merchants have decided to funnel this obsession into charita- ble endeavors, and are also poised to accommodate what appears to be the next craze - Meanie Babies. Barbara Jerrell, owner of Bean- ies xM in First Street Station, was to raffle off a basket of 60 Beanies late this week to a lucky customer who was willing to buy a ticket in the drawing The raffle proved to be so popular, she was able to raise $1,000 for charity through the ticket sales, with Rehoboth Aid Society and West Side New Beginnings splitting the profits. Beanies is now holding a Princess Di Beanie xM raffle through Sep- tember, with the proceeds benefit- ing the Rehoboth Beach Public Library Capital Campaign.
