Bob Bradford, an era- ployee in this year-round empori- um, noted that he just received a price list over the Internet, which shows that some people are will- ing to pay upward of $1,000 for particularly rare and/or popular "models." i Patty Derrick of the Rehoboth Sea Shell Shops has been holding a charitable Beanie TM promotion over the holidays as well. Anyone buying a toy or Beanie TM for a needy child can have it wrapped and delivered to Casa San Fran- cisco in Milton. Also, anyone spending at least $100 in the shops can purchase a Princess Di Beanie TM for a $100 donation to Casa's needy children. Those not wishing to spend at least $100, may purchase a Princes Di Beanie TM with a check for $200 made payable to Casa. newer cast of Beanie TM charac- ters, including turkeys, fish, frogs and a variety of other models, will have no difficulty tracking them down in time for Christmas. Linda Rotach of the Mizzen Mast gift shop in Village by the Sea said she recalls the Beanie TM craze mounting locally during the 1996 holiday season, although they've been on the market for at least five years. Now, there's a "take oft" on the whole Beanie TM phenomenon, Meanie Babies TM, which are also available at these Rehoboth shops. According to Mizzen Mast owner Dennis Diehl, stores across the country are now frantically trying to keep up with the huge consumer demand for the Mean- ies TM, 12 "attitude-packed" plush bean bag toys from TOPKAT. matian named "Fi and Do," and a tire-flattened "Splat Cat." As with the demand for the Princess Di BeaniesT, '' a Balti- more-area store owner reported that the Meanies TM sold out in the first couple of days and they are now taking reservations by phone. In a Memphis, Tenn. sh6p, pur- chases are being limited to three per customer and buyers are lining up daily, while in St. Paul, Minn., fights have broken out between customers vying for Meanies TM sets. Allen Winter, president and founder of TOPKAT, said "Al- though the Meanies TM were origi- nally developed to target young boys, we're finding that they ap- peal to a very broad audience. We have customers reporting purchas- es from kids as ybung as 5, all the way up to senior citizens." JACK LINGO Cristaldi , 227-3883 REALTOR 227-2988 Home Need A New Home Right Now?
