What better place to mix it up than at Arena's with a band called The Agitators? The Baltimore-based trio includes Dave Walsh on drams, Chris Moser on bass and Pete Baker on guitar. While roots rock is the band's mainstay, the band's upbeat shows include clever covers that range from Stray Cats songs to Buddy Holly ditties. Traces of rockabilly, blues and good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll have earmarked The Agitators as a current and future success story. Formerly the Poorhouse Rockers,. the magazine. "We make it our own. We put our own spin on it." Walsh said the band enjoys playing at Arena's, where it made its Cape Region debut this past fall. In other local entertainment news...There's plenty on the entertainment agenda for party picks on Christmas night. Arena's and Sir Guy's in Rehoboth Beach will both feature DJ music that evening. Dogfish Head will host local artists Cliff Hillis and Pete Weidmann for its post-holi- day festivities. Hillis' band Starbelly will return to Dogfish Sunday, Dec. 27. Don't miss the annual Christmas jam at Sydney's Blues & Jazz Restaurant Christmas night, either. Call 227-1339 for more information. Agitators have played throughout the Mid:-- Atlantic Region, including venues in Ocean City, Md.; Lancaster, Pa.; New Hope, Pa. and Havre de Grace, Md. More than three years on the regional scene has earned them kudos from a multitude of sources., After changing their name in '97, The Agitators continued to mix it up with their blend of covers and originals. Although they produce original material also, their kitschy, out-of-the-ordinary cover material gives them an edge amidst a mass of cover bands. "Our big thing is, if we're going to cover a song, we don't try to make it sound like the record," said frontman Baker in a February 1998 interview with "The Bai'fly" .... Ring in the new year and party like it's 1999 by visiting one of your favorite establishments. While some festivities include a holiday price tag, others are more laid-back, casual fetes. As always, it pays revelers to call in advance to get updates on the entertainment and dining accom- modations. In Rehoboth Beach, Sydney's Blues & Jazz Restaurant will fea- ture the smooth sounds of the Keith Killgo Quartet. Be sure to phone in advance, though, because reservations are recom- mended. In Long Neck, Ashby's will also feature music by a DJ. Lewes' own popular ensemble, the Blues Gems, will play at Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach, while another rocking Lewes band, the Wise Guys, shakes things up for New Year's Eve at Irish Eyes at Anglers in Lewes.
