Mr. South had held several managerial positions within the textile fibers department of the duPont Company for 35 years, re- tiring in 1990. He and his wife moved to Sussex County in 1998. Mr. South received his degree in economics from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa., serving for 10 years on the Unionville/Chadstbrd Pa. school board. He was an Air Force veteran and member of American Legion Post 28; he was also an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan Carol South; a son, Allen L. South Jr. of Darlington, Pa.; a son, Stephen Cosby South of Downington, Pa.; a daughter, Deborah Kay South of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a sister, Dorothy South of Beaver, Pa.; a brother, Richard South of Darlington, Pa.; a grand- son, Christopher D. Ard of Slip- pery Rock, Pa.; and a granddaugh- ter, Sarah Ann Jopchack of Dar- lington, Pa. Memorial services will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Cre- matorium, 1449 Kings Hwy., Lewes, at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 20, with burial in Delaware Veter- ans Cemetery South, Georgetown. Contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, 600 N. duPont Hwy., Georgetown DE 19947. Ronald C. Lynch, sheet metal worker Ronald C. Lynch, 65, of Mills- boro, died of cancer at home Mon- day, Jan. 15, 2001. Born in Lewes, the son ef the late James and Jennie Lynch, he was a retired sheet metal worker and guitarist. He loved music and played gui- tar, playing backup music for Wanda Jackson and Reno and Smiley's Blue Grass Band. He en- joyed playing for charities, music festivals and for the enjoyment of others. He was a member of the Im- proved Order of Redmen in Georgetown and Blackwater Fel- lowship Church, Frankford. He was predeceased by his wife, DOrothy, in 1994, and sons Ronald Jr. and Wayne. He is survived by a son, Richard Lynch of Essex England; two daughters, Nancy Carey of Mills- boro and Sharon McLain of Willards, Md.; a sister, Charlotte Hawkins of Selbyville; two broth- ers, Mason Lynch of Folcroft, Pa. and Arthur Lynch of Selbyville; I 1 grandchildren; five step-grand- children; and eight great-grand- children. Koones of Rehoboth Beach and Key Colony, Fla., died peacefully in her sleep on Satur- day, Jan. 13, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Koones. Koones; and daughters-in-law Jane C. and Barbara Koones; six grandchildren, Kristina Koones, Karen Callahan, Kathryn Sheats, Suzanne Egan, Charles Koones and Mary Lynn Cabrera; and 11 great-grandchildren. "Seamus" Harrington, 62, of Newark, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001. Mr. Harrington was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and a graduate of Notre Dame University. He taught at Squinas Academy and was an avid volunteer at many churches. He is survived by three chil- dren, J.B. Harrington of Wilming- ton, Stacey Murphy of New Jersey and Dana Harrington Conor of Wilmington; one brother, Edward Harrington of Massachusetts; his former wife, Ruth Daniels Har- rington; and five grandchildren. A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 19, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Route 4 and Gender Road, Newark, with burial in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. Contributions are suggested to Holy Family Catholic Church Memorial or Little Sisters of the Poor. Doris M. Homer, retired adjudicator Doris M. Horner, 76, of Mills- boro, and formerly of Fernhook, New Castle. died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at home. Mrs. Horner had been an adju- dicator at the Veterans Adminis- tration Hospital, Elsmere, retiring in 1983 after 30 years. She en- joyed traveling through the coun- try and bird watching. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Howard M. Homer; her children, William H. Morrow Jr. of Newark, Ronnie J. Morrow of Hagerstown, Md.,. Howard M. Horner Jr. of New Castle, Norma L. Nachtigal of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Margaret Conti of Harris- burg, Pa.; l0 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the Chapel of Gracelawn Memori- al Park, New Castle, with burial to follow in the adjoining memorial park. Pond, 79, of Georgetown and formerly of Lewes, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, of heart failure at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. Mrs. Pond was a retired nurse's aide and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her son, Paul Edward Lowe and her daughter, Frances Marie Rit- tel and by a stepson, Richard Pond. She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Pond Jr.; a son, Donald Eugene Vaughn; a daughter, Roberta Faye Lituski; two step- sons, Jerry Pond and Ralph Pond; two stepdaughters, Linda Thur- man and Jeanette Newcomb; four brothers, Beryl, Clyde, Robert and Cecil; five sisters, Mildred Skel- ton, Eva Thompson, Frances Brewer, Ruth Steele and Clara Hadox; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Frances A. Ferguson, Rehoboth homemaker Frances Adelaide Ferguson, 78, of Rehoboth Beach, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Beebe Medical Center. Mrs. Ferguson was a homemak- er. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Ferguson, in 1985. She is survived by a daughter, Frances Ruth Hurley of Rehoboth Beach; a son, Timothy W. Fergu- son of Rockville, Md.; a sister, Es- ther L. Vicar of Lanham, Md.; and two grandchildren. Donald Richard Arthur, area educator Donald Richard Arthur, 78, of West Melbourne, Fla. and former- ly of Ocean View, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2001, in Holmes Medical Center, West Melbourne. Mr. Arthur was a veteran of World War I1, serving as a ser- geant in the U.S. Army and spent most of his duty throughout Eu- rope, Africa and the Middle East, including the Battle of the Bulge in Ardennes. He received both his undergrad- uate and graduate degrees from Towson State University in Tow- son, Md., and was a teacher in the Baltimore school system and a guidance counselor in North East, Md. for many years. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he served as a guidance counselor for three years and principal for 15 years for the Sussex County Vocational Techni- cal Center in Georgetown. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Lynn Vogel, in 1994.
