Hundreds of celebrants attend- ed the National Holiday Worship Service held at the Midway As- sembly of God Church, Jan. 15. Jane Hovington, an advo- cate of and activist for racial equality in public education, was awarded an Outstanding Community Service Award for her work with children in the Georgetown area. Community Service Awards were presented to Ranford Allen Sr., Jane Hovington, Pearl Mauil and Herman Paynter for exemplary commitment and actions. The Youth in Unity Choir of Sussex Central High School pro- vided spirited and crowd-pleasing vocals during the worship serv- ice. Rev. Braven Duffle, pastor of Bethel AME Church in Milton, delivered an invitation to Christ- ian Discipleship to officially close the holiday for 2001. "The truth of the matter is equality is still a dream," said Duffle. "When God created man from a handful of dust, He created all men. One must look beyond what is visible to what is the evi- dent truth - that man is man and all are the same in the eyes of God. Equality will occur only when all people choose to love one another in the spirit of broth- erhood. Unconditional love through Christ is the answer to equality."
