Boat safety course
set Feb. 3 in Milford
The Delaware Safety Council
will be offering the official
DNREC-approved Boating Safety
Course from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sat-
urday, Feb. 3, at the Milford Po-
lice Department classroom, 400
NE Front Street.
This 8-hour class is designed to
comply with state law, which now
requires any person born after Jan.
l, 1978 to complete a boating
safety course before operating a
motorboat on Delaware waters.
The fee for the course is $30
and includes all instructional ma-
terials and a DNREC certificate of
completion. Discounts are avail-
able for families of three or more.
Class size is limited and preregis-
tration is required. To register, call

Fundraiser benefits
lacrosse programs
A fundraiser sponsored by the
Henlopen Lacrosse Foundation
from 7 p.m. to midnight, Friday,
Jan. 26, at the Baycenter in
Dewey Beach.
The Funsters will provide the
entertainment and the evening
will also include a silent auction
and raffle. Tickets are $10 per per-
son and may be obtained by call-
ing Ann Rogan, 645-7897, Jan
Steele, 645-8272, Joanne Reihm,
645-5346 or Atlantic Cellular at
64-2644.
They may also be purchased at
the door the night of the event.
Checks should be made payable to
the Henlopen Lacrosse Founda-
tion.
Money raised from the event
will support youth lacrosse pro-
grams for boys and girls, the es-
tablishment of a fund for middle
school-aged children to attend
tournaments outside'the Cape Re-
gion, the establishment of a schol-
arship for underprivileged chil-
dren; and underwriting of other
necessary expenses.
YMCA swimmers
down Dorchester
The Sussex YMCA Seagulls
swim team defeated the Dorch-
ester (Md.) swim team at a Jan. 6
meet at the YMCA in Reboboth.
The Seagulls won the meet by
racking up 438 points to the 176
points scored by the visiting
Dorchester team. Gull swimmers
placed first in 55 of 84 races, with
second and third place finishes en-
suring the impressive margin of
victory.
The Seagulls swim team has
more than 70 members from ages
5 to 18 and is coached by Lydia
Schmeirer.
National 'Women in
Sports Day' set Feb. 4
A national "Women in Sports
Day" celebration will be held at i
p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Clayton

Brian Donahue resigns
Cape Henlopen High School's head football coach Brian Don-
ahue has submitted his resignation after four years at the helm.
Donahue put together four consecutive winning seasons, includ-
ing two Northern Division championships and two state tournament
appearances. Donahue will remain as a special education teacher
with the district and plans to pursue his master's degree. He made
an announcement to the entire squad after weight training on Jan.
17.
His 1999 team included Player of the Year Elijah Worthy and
Lineman of the Year Matt Graviet.
Donahue came to Cape in 1993 as assistant with head coach
George Glenn. The Glenn and Donahue regime put together eight
consecutive winning seasons. Assistant coach Bill Geppert, who
has been with the program during that successful era, has emerged
as a leading candidate for the job.

Delaware campus in Newark.
Congress has set aside Feb. 3 to
acknowledge the accomplish-
ments of female athletes on the
national and local levels.
Delaware will be celebrating this
14th annual event hosted by the
Delaware Women's Alliance for
Sport and Fitness with a luncheon,
awards presentation and auction
on Feb. 4.
Guest speaker will be Lori Van-
Sickle, the first PGA-Certified
Masters Club Professional. The
cost is $20 for adults and $10 for

Warhawks semi-pro
football tryouts on tap
The Western Sussex Warhawks
will hold tryouts from 10 a.m. to
noon, Jan. 20 and 27 at a field on
Stein Highway in Seaford (across
from the Ames Department
Store).
Anyone over 18 who wishes to
participate on a spring semi-pro
tbotball team should attend. For

Dinner will honor
Olympic gold medalist
A tribute dinner will be held in
Sussex County on Saturday, Jan.
27, to honor Delaware native and
Olympic gold medalist Mike
Neill. A member of the United
States' 2000 Olympic Baseball
team, Neiil was a major contribu-
tor to the team's winning of the
gold during the Summer Games in
Sidney, Australia.
Neill, who was born in Seaford,
graduated from Seaford High
School where he played high
school sports, including baseball
and basketball.
He was also very involved in
the Nanticoke Little League or-
ganization.
The Mike Neiil Tribute Dinner
will be held at the Western Sussex
Boys and Girls Club, Seaford, be-
ginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15
for adults and $7 for children 12
and under.

Eagles join Duce Staley
for youth program
Several of the Philadelphia Ea-
gles will join with Duce Staley to
present a very unique football
camp this summer. Boys ages 8-
18 will have the opportunity to
learn football from NFL greats
such as Donovan McNabb, Duce
Staley, Mike Mamula, Charles
Johnson, John Runyan, Brian
Dawkins, Barry Gardner, Hollis
Thomas, Chad Lewis, Koy Det-
mer and many more. Duce Staley
will be at camp every day.
The program will be held June
23-27 at West Chester University,
West Chester, Pa. Emphasis is
placed on teaching each boy better
football skills and the importance
of being a better person.

Lenny Moore to
keynote prayer breakfast
Pro-football Hall of Famer
Lenny Moore will be a keynote
speaker at the Boys and Girls
Clubs of Delaware's Third Annual
Prayer Breakfast in Seaford. The
event will be held at the Western
Sussex Boys and Girls Club be-
ginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3.
During his career with the Balti-
more Colts, Moore scored 113
touchdowns and amassed 12,45 I
combined net yards - 5,174 of that
on the ground. He was enshrined
in the Hall of Fame in 1975.
Also speaking at the Prayer
Breakfast will be local celebrity
D.J. Jimmy Hoppa of CAT Coun-
try radio.
Providing musical entertain-
ment at the Prayer Breakfast will
be Maggie Johnson, who has been
active nationally as a promoter of
sexual abstinence among young
people.
The Prayer Breakfast is a part of
the annual Boys and Girls Clubs
of Delaware "Festival for Youth,"
which raises money for positive
youth development programming.

Taking the plunge early
It may have been a couple of weeks early, but since this
group of Special Olympians was going to miss the Feb. 4 Po-
lax" Bear Plunge for Special Olympics because they will be in
competition, they decided to take the dip on Jan. 13 at Cape
