Association of Churches continues services
The Lewes-Rehoboth Association of Churches is sponsoring a series
of Sunday Evening Services of Praise during February. The final
evening, Feb. 25, will be at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in
Rehoboth Beach, and the Rev. Dr. Harry Hughes, pastor of Lewes
Presbyterian Church, will speak.
St. Edmond's to host World Day of Prayer
The observance of the 109th annual World Day of Prayer will be held
for the Rehoboth Beach community at St. Edmond's Catholic Church at
1 p.m., Friday, March 1. The Word Day of Prayer is an international,
ecumenical worship service joining together millions of women around
the globe, from tiny rural communities in developing countries to large
cities for a day of"informed prayer and prayerful action."
Written annually by Christian women from one of the 170
participating countries, the 1996 service was prepared by Haitian
women on the theme "God Calls Us to Respond." Haitians ask us to
remember God's call to the Biblical prophets and for each of us to
respond to God's call by taking care of His creation and one another.
Nancy Barton Phillips, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, will be the guest
speaker. Now living in Wicomico, Md., she spent a year in Haiti in
1985 as a volunteer at St. Vincent's School for Handicapped Children.
The school is operated by the Sisters of St. Margaret's Convent, an
American order of Episcopal nuns who minister to the people of Port
Au Prince. A portion of the offerings will be given to grants for projects
in Haiti. The remainder helps support the work of Church Women
United, which serves as the National Committee for World Day of
Prayer. Churches participating include All Saints Episcopal, Epworth
United Methodist, First Church of Christ Scientist, Lutheran Church of
Our Savior, Mount Pleasant United Methodist, Westminster
Presbyterian and St. Edmond's. Call 227-4550 for more information.
Mt. Pleasant sets Men's Day Service
The Annual Men's Day Service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday,
Feb. 25 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Church St., Rehoboth
Beach. Guest speaker is the Rev. Dr. Lehman R. Tomlin Jr., council
director of Peninsula Delaware Conference Council on Ministries. A
free will offering will be taken and a fellowship dinner will follow the

St. Edmond's sets parish renewal mission
St. Edmond's Catholic Church will hold a parish renewal mission
beginning Monday, Feb. 26 thru Friday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. at St.
Jude's Rt. 1, Lewes. Rev. John Delclos from the Archdiocese of
Baltimore, who focuses on parish retreats, renewals and missions, will
conduct the retreat. He is a graduate of Loyola College and St. Mary's
Seminary. Every program begins with Mass followed by a 30-minute
conference. The schedule includes: Prayer in a busy life, Feb. 26; How
to forgive people when they don't deserve it, Feb. 27; How we can know
for certain that we are doing what God is expecting, Feb. 28;
Discipleship in 1996, Feb. 29; and How to live a spiritual life, March 1.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
