Cape after prom party promises circus of fun and food
By Rosanne Pack
For Cape Henlopen High
School students who want to
stretch their prom night fun be-
yond after after-hours, the first-
ever post prom party is set for the
wee hours following the Saturday,
May 20 prom.
Sponsored by the Cape PTO
and supported by the Cape Well-
ness Center, the party will take
students from the sophistication of
the formal prom to the razzle daz-
zle of a carnival midway.
Those organizing the party are
transforming the institutional hail-
ways and gathering spaces of the
school into a hurdy-gurdy collec-
tion of side show attractions,
games of chance, strength and
skill and enough midway food to
keep everyone, fueled for an ali-
nighter.
Terri Clifton, PTO president,
said, "In an effort to provide a
safe, memorable prom night, we
are sponsoring an event that will
be held from 12:30 a.m. until 5:30
a.m. W will have prizes to help
make the party fun for the kids;
hopefully, this will be the first of
many post prom parties to come!"
The PTO is calling on thecom-
munity to take a role in creating a
non-stop fun event.
Clifton said, "We are requesting
that merchants and other members
of the community donate funds to
help offset some of the cost of this
worthwhile venture., Or a donation
that could be used as a prize, such
as gift certificates, items such as
hair dryers, curling irons or even
small TVs would be very helpful.
We would love to have prizes like
these to help keep the party excit-
ing."
She said cash donations or prize
items can be sent to the Cape
Wellness Center. Checks should
be made payable to the Cape Hen-
Iopen High School PTO; if items
need to be picked up, donors can
call the Wellness Center, 644-
2946.
Some of the most popular
games and attractions from Grand
Rental Station will be used to car-
ry out the carnival theme. To in-
troduce students to the post prom
party concept and get them think-
ing "carnival," a strong man bell
scale was recently set up outside
the cafeteria of Cape High. Sever-
al women joined the men in heft-
ing the hammer in an attempt to
bang the bell at the top of the
scale.
And even a teacher or two
weighed in.
The bell bonged many times as
Karen Kohn of the Wellness Cen-
ter instructed students on the finer
points of swinging a sledge ham-
mer.
Kohn said the variety of the ac-
tivities scheduled for post prom is
sure to give everyone something
to enjoy.
In addition to games, there will
be a dance area and an insomniac
DJ, and even a quiet area where
relaxation will rule.
"This place will not look like
where the students go to school;
they won't recognize it when they
come to the carnival," Kohn said.
"There will be special gifts for
everyone who stays for the entire
party. And the party will end at
5:30 in the morning with break-
fast for everyone."
Kohn said that only those who
attend the prom are eligible to at-
tend the post prom party. Tickets
will be sold in advance.
More details will be publicized
as the prom date draws closer.
Dayna Quillen of Grand Rental
said that the carnival will include
hoop shooting, an inflatable
jousting ring and even an obstacle
course. To provide prom party
money for casino games, a "cash
grab" booth is included in the
plans.
The more money that students
can grab as it blows and swirls
around them, the more they can
wager at the just-for-fun casino
games.

Ready to ring up a winning score on the strength meter, Jared Martin swings the sledge
hammer just as if it were already post prom party time.
Showing that there is no such thing as the weaker sex, Kar-
H McCall slams it home as she gets a preview of events that
will be offered at the first Cape Henlopen High School post
prom party.
Thank You
My heartfelt thanks to the people of Lewes who
supported my campaign for the Board of Public
Works with their votes, their time and their kind
words. I was overwhelmed by-such a positive
response.
I would also like to congratulate the winners and
the people of Lewes on the results of the election.
I originally sought a position on the Board
because I felt that my technical experience would
serve the citizens of Lewes well.-I still believe this,
and hope to lend this expertise to the Board in the
future or perhaps in some other public service
capacity. The city of Lewes deserves to have com-
mitted and unbiased citizens working to ensure
the highest quality of life possible.
And a special thanks to my friends for their sup-
port and assistance.
