Sussex YMCA draws crowd for Healthy Kids Day.
The Sussex Family YMCA held its Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 8, featuring a vari-
ety of activities, including the first Character Counts Youth Triathlon, fingerprinting spon-
sored by Baltimore Life and vision screening by the Rehoboth Beach Lions C]ub and a make-
a-book project sponsored by Delaware READ-ALOUD. Fitness testing, a children's play by
Duet Productions, yoga with Maria Abbruzzi, camp signup, a bake sale, dog obedience
demonstrations by DOGMATIC Dog Trainers and water safety demonstrations by the YMCA
Aquatics Department rounded out the day. One highlight was the gymnastics demonstration
by YMCA program participants, including Hannah Cryne, age nine, of Rehoboth Beach,
showing her athletic prowess above.

Natural and man'made disasters
can destroy, damage and degrade
a community's infrastructure, in-
stitutions and family life. Disas-
ters may also impact a communi-
ty's history and identity, so the
protection of historic and cultural
properties is critical to maintain-
ing our national and regional her-
itage.
The Federal Emergency Man-
agement Agency has worked with
state and county historic preserva-
tion offices to strike a responsible
balance between the pressures of
disaster response and considera-
tion of historic preservation. To-
gether, these agencies have
worked to develop programs
which incorporate disaster pre-
paredness and recovery initiatives
into preservation of historic prop-
erties to keep residents connected
to their community and roots. The
City of Lewes Project Impact
Steering Committee, in coopera-
tion with the Sussex County His-
toric Preservation Planning Of-
fice, will sponsor a free seminar
on preserving the historic proper-
ties in Lewes, and disaster pre-
paredness.
Historic Preservation: Balanc-
ing Disaster Response, Recovery
and Preparedness with our Her-
itage will take place from 7 to
8:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 19,
in the second floor meeting room
of the Lewes Public Library. The
seminar is open to everyone.
