I see a lot of women for con- sultation and many of them don't need any treatment at all for their flbroids. Time is usu- ally the best ally. Any time that your doctor suggests major surgery, it's smart to under- stand your options and get a second opinion. While having a hysterectomy is sometimes medically indicated, there is usually no rush. In fact, most fibroids usually shrink or dis- appear after menopause. There are also newer treatments that remove or destroy fibroids that are minimally invasive. You should make sure to explore all treatment options with your doctor in deciding which is best for your particular circum- stances. It's vitally important that your surgeon be experi- enced with what ever proce- dure you choose. Not all doc- tors are trained in the newer, less invasive procedures and recommend only what they know. Doctor Maxime G.
