Fibroid tumors are extremely
common, affecting between 20
to 40% of women. No one real-
ly knows why they occur.
I see a lot of women for con-
sultation and many of them
don't need any treatment at all
for their flbroids. Time is usu-
ally the best ally. Any time that
your doctor suggests major
surgery, it's smart to under-
stand your options and get a
second opinion. While having a
hysterectomy is sometimes
medically indicated, there is
usually no rush. In fact, most
fibroids usually shrink or dis-
appear after menopause. There
are also newer treatments that
remove or destroy fibroids that
are minimally invasive. You
should make sure to explore all
treatment options with your
doctor in deciding which is best
for your particular circum-
stances. It's vitally important
that your surgeon be experi-
enced with what ever proce-
dure you choose. Not all doc-
tors are trained in the newer,
less invasive procedures and
recommend only what they
know.

INTRODUCING THE NEW OPEN MRI
AT BEEBE MEDICAL CENTER
B eebe Medical Center offers two reliable choices for MRI
(Magnetic Resonance Imaging) needs:
• A new open MRI unit with the most
advanced technology available
* Beebe's existing, full-sfrength MRI
Both allow patients to receive
unsurpassed, state-of-the-artMRI
exams, according to individual
patient needs.
The existing MRI provides higher quality imaging
for most patients; however, the new Outlook Proview
MRI unit is ideal for claustrophobic and larger
patients, and patients who need images of the
spine and joints.
