Campus takes off

Students of the Coastal Community Campus are
learning aviation terms such as fuselage, rudder and
cockpit. These features of a plane are pointed out to
them by a reaMife pilot, Capt. Mike Snapp of the
Dover Air Force Base, during his hands-on teaching
during the program's science unit.
Classes such as Snapp's, held Monday, April 10, at
the Midway Assembly of God near Lewes, are part
of a homeschool education program that Debbie Rit-
ter, president of Coastal Community Campus home-
school education assistance center, hopes will catch
'on in the Cape Region. Goals of the program are
providing parents with educational options for their
children and providing individual attention to stu-
dents that they otherwise may not receive.
As homeschooling continues to gain attention na-
tionally for its merits, Ritter said she'd like to see the
local program draw interest. While 18 children are
currently enrolled in the classes, held Mondays at
Midway Assembly of God from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.,
she said the program, which functions from an evan-
gelical/Christian viewpoint, is still seeking not only
more participants, but more teachers.
"We're looking for people who are experts in a cer-
tain field," said Ritter. "This would be ideal for
someone who is perhaps a former teacher who only
wants to work part time or someone who has an in-
terest but can't commit to a lot of time."
Requirements for Coastal Community Campus
teachers are that the individual be a certified teacher
and that he or she support traditional Christian val-
ues, said Ritter. Prepared curriculum is available for
