Rehoboth Main S tre sign program gets results
Having been launched only one
month ago, the Rehoboth Beach
Main Street's Sign Incentive Pro-
gram has seen its first sign go up
and there are three more in the
works.
Acropolis, an antique and arti-
fact store at 40 Baltimore Avenue,
was the first retail business in
town to take advantage of Main
Street's wholesale sign program
and their new sign has been in-
stalled.
A dark blue wooden sign with
gold leaf carved lettering, the sign
includes a carved replica of the
Acropolis logo and has now been
erected on the front of the build-
ing.
The Main Street sign program
offers the opportunity for Main
Street members to obtain a whole-
sale price on new or replacement
signs. Main Street's goal is to en-
courage merchants and commer-
cial property owners in downtown

Mike Lobb, co-owner of Acropolis, a new antiques and arti-
facts emporium opening on Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth
Beach, is the first to take advantage of Rehoboth Beach Main
Street's Sign Incentive Program, in which Main Street mem-
bers are given wholesale prices on new signs from Rogers
Sign Company of Milton, whose truck is shown above. A pro-
gram on sign and facade revitalization will be held on Tues-
day, April 18, at Rehoboth Convention Center.
Rehoboth Beach to revitalize their
store fronts with effective and at-
tractive signs that meet Main
Street's broad and flexible design
guidelines.
In general, those guidelines
support front-lit signs and
awnings, or signs with individual-
ly lighted letters. Rogers Sign
Company of Milton is working
with Main Street on the program.
According to Jay Jacobs, Re-
hoboth Main Street executive di-
rector, eligibility for the program
is simple. "All that's required is a
sign plan meeting Main Street
guidelines or the willingness to
work with Main Street to develop
a proposal; compliance with the
City of Rehoboth Beach Sign Or-
dinance; and current Main Street
membership," she said.
Three other downtown busi-
nesses, Spa by the Sea, which is
opening at 46A Baltimore Av-
enue; the new Full Moon Saloon,
taking up residence in the former
.Irish Eyes Pub site on Wilmington
Avenue; and Penny Lane Mall be-
tween Wilmington and Rehoboth
avenues, are participating in the
program as well. They currently
have signs in the design or con-
struction phase and there are more
than a dozen other businesses that
have contacted Main Street to in-
quire about the program.
In connection with the sign pro-
gram, Main Street will host an in-
formation seminar on sign and fa-
cade revitalization from 1:30 to
3:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, at
the Rehoboth Convention Center
Conference Room. Linda Harper
of the National Main Street Cen-
ter will present a slide show, dis-
cussion and question and answer
session. The meeting is open to
the public.

Lawson's Produce of Harbeson will take over the produce operation
at the McQuay Marketplace. Cliff Lawson, owner and manager, has op-
erated a produce stand on Route 5 for the past three seasons. Bakery
items from the Bake Shoppe in Rehoboth will also be available.
Captain's Ketch Seafood Market will be returning for its second sea-
son, and will offer fresh Maryland crab meat, steamed crabs, live lob-
sters, shrimp and clams, and a full range of fish for the grill.
The McQuay Marketplace management is seeking to fill the market
with a dell or gourmet grocer or quality meat establishment. For more
information, contact Paul Lovett at 610-533-7996.
