Carter brings outdoor exercise
with Rocks, and Rapids
By Steve Hoenigmann
Matt Carter knows how impor-
tant exercise is in keeping fit.
He also knows that many peo-
ple aren't enamored with the idea
of working out surroty ex-

Rocks, Rims and Rapids now
offers residents of and visitors to
the Cape Region the option of
outdoor exercise.
Rocks refers to the 24-foot mo-
bile rock wall that can be towed to
any location.
Rims refers to the eight moun-
tain bikes that can be rented on a
daily or weekly basis.
And Rapids refers to Carter's
wide selection of kayaks that can
be paddled on the ocean, bays,
rivers, canals and streams.
"The whole idea is to get people
outdoors to get in shape," said
Carter, who worked last summer
as a personal trainer at The Firm
Fitness Club.
The Milford native earned a de-
gree in exercise science at Fort
Louis College in Durango, Colo.,
and that's where he learned rock
climbing, mountain biking and
whitewater rafting. He also has
spent many sers in the Lewes
and Rehoboth areas, and he
thought his business idea would
be popular with the flatlanders of
the area ................

;Say yu' the leader of a Boy
Scout trOop going out on a week-
end camping trip. Think the kids
might want to learn how to rock
climb? Just call Carter in advance
and he'll bring his mobile rock
wall to the campsite, provide the
instruction and then oversee the
scouts as they attempt to climb the
24-foot rock wall.
Say the several members of
your family are in town for a visit
and most of them love to ride
bikes to stay in shape. Give
Carter a call and he can arrange
for and/or lead a bike tour of any
distance in the Cape Region.
He'll even bring the bikes to you,
if need be.
Say some out-of-town friends
pay you a surprise visit and some-
one suggests a midnight cruise of
the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. No
problem, just give Carter a call
and he can arrange and/or lead a
kayak trip from Rehoboth Bay to
Milton and all parts in between.
"All people need to do is just
give me a call and I can set up
anything they need," said Carter,
adding that he can provided in-
struction on or off site, and that he
can cater to private parties, corpo-
rate affairs, youth and civic organ-
izations - any group that would be
interested in some fun along with
some exercise.
Carter also noted that in about a
week, his business will be the first
full kayak retail shop in the area.
To help kick things off for the
season, Rocks, Rims and Rapids
will hold a grand opening celebra-
tion on Easter weekend, April 22
and 23, complete with a live radio
broadcast, food and refreshments
and libations from Dogfish Head
Brewings & Eats.
He's also offering half-price
kayak trips that weekend to those
who designate the trips to a wor-
thy cause, such as cleaning up the
inland bays.
Carter's Rocks, Rims and
Rapids is open 7 a.m. until ?, sev-
en days a week with special
arrangements by advance ap-
pointment. For more information,
give him a call at 644-7020.
