RAL hosts children's exhibit, bestows Derrickson awards

A children's exhibit, "Young at Art," is on display at the Rehoboth Art League (RAL)
CorkranfIbbs Galleries in Henlopen Acres through Saturday, April 29. The exhibit features
two and three-dimensional works of art by elementary and middle school students in Sussex
County and is sponsored by Rehoboth Outlets. An opening reception was held Saturday,
April 8. Above, Chiara Abbruzzi, age five, of Rehoboth Beach, examines a head created by
Jennah Truitt and Christina Gott of PhiRip C. Shower Elementary School, during the open-
ing reception.

The RAL awarded an Annual James Kenneth Derrickson
Memorial Scholarship to Kiln Brown, a student at Sussex
Central High School, who has been recognized by the
Delaware Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Sussex Arts
Council and RAL for her talent in drawing. Brown is in-
volved in a variety of community service activities aiad is an
honor student and vice president of the school art club.
Teachers from the area submit artwork to the RAL and a win-
ner is chosen in each division, elementary, middle and high
school, based on the students' work and teacher's recommen-
dation. Winners receive a scholarship to include one year's
free tuition to all RAL functions and classes. Other winners
included Eric, Evans of Frankford in the elementary divi-
sion, with an honorable mention for Janise Amber Hender-
son from Woodbridge, and Clare Nowakowski of Lewes Mid.
