Georgetown Oyster Eat honored
by Libraries of Congress project
Delaware Congressman
Michael Castle announced May
23 that the Georgetown Volunteer
Firefighter Company Oyster Eat
will be unveiled at a special Con-
gressional Reception, as Castle's
Delaware Tradition for the Li-
brary of Congress' Local Lega-
cies project. The Local Legacies
project was created to celebrate
the library's 200th anniversary in
the year 2000.
"I am proud to sponsor the
Georgetown Oyster Eat as a Li-
brary of Congress Local Legacy
project," Castle said. "The best
way to describe the Oyster Eat is
a one-of-a-kind, only-found-in
Delaware event. Where else in
America could you find such a di-
verse group of people including
politicians, farmers, bankers and
firemen, gathered together eating
oysters, dancing and socializing
with their neighbors? It is a great
melting pot and a fun night to
benefit the Georgetown Fire
Company, whose members put
their lives on the line for us every-
day."
