60 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, June 9. Juue-1'11; 2000
Resort restaurants
urged to advertise in
VIA's new cookbook
The popular Village Improve-
ment Association (VIA) cook-
book, whose sale proceeds go to
charity, is now being updated with
a new restaurant section. A healthy
recipe section is also being added
to the book, according ro VIA
cookbook chairman Carmela
Coleman of Rehoboth Beach.
.... The publisher, David Bradley
of Fundcraft, Collierville, Tenn.,
said most books like this have a
shelf life of only 2-3 years," Cole-
man said. "Ours is breaking
records." She said that the attrac-
tive cover and design of the book
by artist Joanne DeFiore of Re-
hoboth Beach, the 300 or more
recipes and the fact that the book
is a great gift and souvenir of the
area have led to the book selling
for nine years. Over 6,000 copies
have been sold.
"Katie Couric of the NBC To-
day Show is going to dedicate the
book to Carol Monahan, previous
editor of the book, who died last
year," Coleman said. Monahan
was Couric's mother-in-law.
Couric's husband, Jay Monahan,
also died of cancer last year.
"This is a wonderful opportuni-
ty for restaurants to get longterm
advertising," Coleman said. "We
i
are asking restaurants for a one-
page ad layout with a recipe that
can be made at home. The cost for
publishing the ad is $300, plus a
$35 set-up fee if the restaurant is a
new advertiser." VIA members
Patty Derrick and Sylvia Ritchie
are helping to contact restaurants.
Derrick is also selling the book at
all three locations of her business,
The Sea Shell Shop.
The deadline for restaurants to
advertise in Flavors of Cape Hen-
lopen is July 1.
"We want to get the book out by
the end of summer," Coleman
said. "It will make great Christmas
gifts." Those who want to order a
copy by mail can do so by sending
a check for $12, which includes
postage and handling, to the VIA,
P.O. Box 44, Rehoboth Beach, DE
19971.
The book will be available, at its
original price of $10, at the fol-
lowing Rehoboth Beach locations:
The Wooden Indian, Joss, Re-
hoboth Art League, Browseabout
Books, Bozie's, Sea Shell Shops,
Corner Cupboard, Quillen's Hard-
ware, Mizzen Mast, Olde Salt Gift
Shop and Country Accents. In
Lewes, the book may be pur-
chased at Books By The Bay, Two
Friends, Ltd., Habersham Peddler
Interiors, Cape Henlopen State
Park, Sugar and Spice, Auntie M's
Emporium. In Bethany, McCabe's
Gourmet Market is selling the
book.
