Rehoboth businesses donate to Fireworks 2000
Once again a July Fourth Fireworks Extravagan-
za will take place on the ocean off Rehoboth
Beach. Rehoboth Beach Main Street, Inc. is con-
tinuing to raise contributions from the community
in order to fund this third annual effort which at-
tracted thousands of people to the resort the past
couple of years and at least $10,000 is still needed
to put on the display according to Kathy McGui-
ness, fireworks chairman. This year's fireworks
extravaganza will be held at dusk Sunday, July 2,
from a barge off Rehoboth Avenue, preceded by
live entertainment on the Bandstand. A new offi-
cial Rehoboth fireworks T-shirt is now on sale for
$10 at Rehoboth Pharmacy, Rehoboth Beach Sport
& Kiteand the Rehoboth Main Street office. The
shirts will also be sold on the Boardwalk the day of
the fireworks; proceeds go toward the fireworks
fund. The Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Club will co-
ordinate shuttle buses in and out of the city that
evening from Rehoboth Outlets Center 3, begin-
ning at 6 p.m. The cost is $5 per carload for the
round trip service or $1 per person not parking in
the lot. For more information about donations to
the fireworks fund, call Rehoboth Beach Main
Street Executive Director Fay Jacobs at 227-2772.

works at the Mind's Eye gallery in
St. Michaels, Md., the Thunder-
bird Shop in Rehoboth Beach, and
I have a few pieces at The Step-
ping Stone in Lewes. I met the
people from the Stepping Stone at
the Washington Art Show last
winter,"
Yates' pieces were varied. He
has carved Native Americans,
sagelike old men, kings and hors-
es but there was one thing missing
- women.
"I can't carve a woman's face,"
he said. "I've tried and I am
working on this piece and I'm go-
ing to give it one more try," he
said, displaying a small piece that
has already been carved and re-
carved.
A tree spirit is revealed by
Tom Yates' masterful 'artistic
ability and insight into the
elements of nature.
"If I can't get her face, I'il just
turn her into a man." However, it
seems Yates had no problems
finding a variety of faces in his
natural canvases.
Tom Yates' Wild Wood Studio
is in Grasonville, Md. He can be
reached there at 410-827-6140.
