No down payment home ownership workshop set The U.S. Department of Agri- culture's Rural Housing Service will present a Home Ownership Now workshop at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, at the Sel- byville Volunteer Fore Company building on North Main Street in Selbyville. Information will be available to show families and individuals how they can purchase or build their homes in a rural area with no down payment. All areas of Sus- sex County are eligible. DuPont Highway, Millsboro, for a trunk show and signing Saturday, June 17. Her museum-quality dolls, samplers and other decorating and personal accessories are inspira- tions of older days. Donations sought for Big Thursday Festival The Greater Millsboro Chamber of Commerce is now accepting donations for its Big Thursday Festival auction, set Thursday, Aug. 10, as part of the annual three-day event. The auction is supported exten- sively by chamber businesses and the general public, according to chairman Randy Dell of Suburban Propane. Proceeds help defray festival expenses. The chamber will gratefully ac- cept donations from the public for almost any household, yard or commercial items, except for large appliances or furniture, clothing or live animals. Wilmington Women in Business seeks speakers Wilmington Women in Busi- ness is reviving its Speakers Bu- reau and is looking for women speakers who have a specific skill, talent or expertise to share. The goal of the group is to create a well-rounded list of speakers who can inform and inspire people in the community. Speakers will be asked to make presentations at community events, business meet- ings and for other organizations. Topics should focus on women's issues such as women in the work- force, education, health care, fam- ily issues and financial planning. Originally started in the 1990s, the Wilmington Women in Busi- ness Speakers Bureau is a valu- able community resource. Long & Foster announces top rental agents for May Jim Waggoner, vice president of Long & Foster's resort rental divi- sion, has announced the top rental coordinators for the Eastern Shore region for May. The top producer for the region was Mary McCracken of the Ocean City office. The top agents were Emme King for the Bethany office, Alma Ashley for Rehoboth Beach and Marl Bohall for Ocean Pines. The top five for the region were Mc- Cracken, King, Carrie Hickman, Kathy Feldman and Patty Sands. Eckerd seeks outstanding women volunteers To honor women who devote their time and energy to helping others, the Eckerd Corporation re- cently kicked off its third annual Salute to Women program. The nearly 3,000 Eckerd stores across the nation will each select one woman to serve as its local nomi- nee and 100 of these women will be recognized nationally as the Eckerd 100 for the year 2000. Lorraine Coyle, Eckerd vice president, and Wendie Malick, star of NBC's "Just Shoot Me," and a volunteer herself, an- nounced the details of the pro- gram. Anyone can nominate an exceptional woman for the Eckerd 100 by filling out a ballot at Eck- erd stores or via the Internet at ww.eckerd.com. Nominations will be accepted until July 4. The 100 women selected will receive a trip to Washington, D.C., this fall. First Street Station to host June events A grand opening for Fun to Fine Jewelry will be Friday, June 9, at First Street Station in Rehoboth Beach. Sussex BPW hold officer installations Sussex Business and Profes- sional Women (BPW) held its 2000-01 officer installations June 3. Jane Short, president-elect of BPW/Delaware, installed Peggy Young as president of the Sussex chapter. Pat Gransbury was in- stalled as corresponding secretary, Sandy Stintsman as treasurer and Chuck Gransbury as recording secretary. Sussex BPW is a local organization and a member of BPW USA, the leading advocate for working women. Membership is open to both men and women, with discounted memberships for students. DSWA launches Talking Trash radio show The Delaware Solid Waste Au- thority (DSWA) has begun an in- novative half-hour radio program called Talking Trash, which airs at 7:30 a.m., Sundays on WJBR 1290 AM. The goal, said DSWA's manager of information andeducation Danny Aguilar, is to educate the public about issues involved with trash, such as where it's taken, managed and recycled. Show topics include Recycling in Delaware, Education Through Trash and Recycling, Environ- mental Monitoring at DSWA Landfills and Programs Available for Homeowners. Submitted photo Mispillion Rotary Club donates to KSI The Mispillion Rotary Club sponsored a Romantic Valen- tine Gala in February and named Kent-Sussex Industries Inc. as the beneficiary of the event. The Rotary Club recently pre- sented a $1,500 check to KSI during its weekly breakfast meeting. Approximately 100 people attended the black-tie affair. The Sail Loft of Milford provided the hors d'oeuvres, dinner and dessert while the Carl Garnieri Orchestra supplied music. The evening offered several special touches, including a com- plimentary rose for each woman. The Mispillion Rotary Club is planning its second annual Valentine gala which is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 at the Milford Senior Center. Tickets will cost $150 per couple and only 75 tickets will be sold.
