PPP offers Children's Academy
2000 summer camp July 31-Aug. 4
Possum Point Players, Sussex
County's oldest community the-
ater group, is now accepting reg-
istrations for its summer camp,
Children's Academy 2000.
The camp, according to Possum
president John Hulse, "will be a
bit different this year than in other
yeas. We're thrilled that H. Bar-
low has agreed to be the camp di-
rector. With Barlow comes her
teaching and theatrical experience
that spans almost 30 years. She is
just magical with young people,
and we know with her leading the
troops, the experience for the
youth of the county will be terrif-
ic." Children's Academy 2000
will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
from July 31 through Aug. 4, for
gifts and boys in grades three to
seven. The academy will culmi-
nate with a recital, produced and
presented by the campers on Aug.
4. The tuition is $95 per child.
"There are limited numbers of
spaces available, so we're encour-
aging all parents to register their
children as soon as possible,"
Hulse said. The academy will
feature theater history, how to fo-
cus and concentrate, acting, vocal
work, dance and improvisation.

Possum Point Players offer 'Arsenic
and Old Laq'(. beginning June 16
Possum Point Players' summer
comedy is full of good old-fash-
ioned laughs. Arsenic and Old
Lace, the classic tale of murder-
ing sisters, has served the test of
time and continues to bring laugh-
ter and joy to audiences around
the world. Sussex County will be
no exception when director Bob
Kelso and his cast open at Possum
Hall June 16.
"You know it's a funny show
when the cast and crew have to
stop rehearsing to laugh," said
John Hulse, president of Possum
Point. "Just seeing Esther Friend
and Jean Savoy playing the older,
loving, murderous innocents is
enough to bring smiles to our au-
dience. Together, these two talent-
ed women make murder and de-
ceit seem as normal as apple pie."
Other cast members include
Bill Rable, who plays the sisters'
nephew, Mortimer. "Mortimer
starts out in control of everything,
and as things develop, he strug-
gles to retain control of circum-
stances that keep piling up. With
the help of the cast, including
Nicole Hayes (who plays Mor-
timer's love interest), I am learn-
ing to be less serious, looser and
more at ease in a funny situation,"
Rable said.
"This is a wonderful piece of
Americana," said Dick Pack, who
plays Teddy Roosevelt. "It has all
the elements of the wonderful
comedies that were made famous
by Hart and Kaufman, like The
Thin Man."
Performances will be held at 8
p.m., June 16, 17, 23 and 24 and
at 2 p.m., June 18 and 25. Tickets
are $11 and $9 for students/sen-
iors for matinees only. To reserve
tickets, call 856-4560.
