Duo raises $6,000 for cancer foundation
By Trish Vernon
It takes two to tandem and it
takes two extraordinary people to
tandem across country to raise
funds for the Nevada Childhood
Cancer Foundation.
Tony Marley of Los Vegas,
Nev., left Seattle, Wash., on May
28, with his 10-year-old daughter
Leah bringing up the rear on their
shiny red Santana tandem bicycle,
arriving in Rehoboth Beach on
Wednesday morning, Aug. 16.
Leah, anxious to dip her hands
and bicycling gloves into the surf
at first sight of the Atlantic Ocean,
termed her two-and-a-half month,
3,685-mile adventure "cool," as to
date they have raised over $6,000
for the cause.
The whole trip was Leah's idea,
of course. "One day, tWO years
ago we were riding in the Rockies"
and my dad said that ride was
harder than going coast to coast. I
said I wanted to see if that was
harder, so I said let's try it! I like a
challenge and I like helping other
kids," Leah, also a synchronized
swimmer, explained.
