Comedy Club's Gemini fdms for movie script in Rehoboth
By Kerry Kester
The New York Comedy Club in
Rehoboth Beach was the set for a
clip in a movie during the Aug. 12
show, when a young entrepreneur
filmed scenes for a film he hopes
to sell to HBO, Comedy Central
or Warner Brothers.
The main character of the film
is Johnny Lombardi, owner of the
club located in the Atlantic Sands
Hotel on the Boardwalk. Lom-
bardi, who goes by the stage
name Gemini when he's perform-
ing as a magician and comedian,
plays the lead role of Colin Stone
in the movie that will be titled, "Is
This Mike On?" The premise of
the film is what goes on back
stage in a comedy performance
during one weekend at one club,
where three comics perform.
"Colin's a talented gentleman,
but his talent no way matches his
ego or his insecurity," said Greg
Hall, who wrote the script and is
directing the film. "He's proba-
bly a little more worried about
how his wardrobe looks than how
his jokes go."
The other two primary charac-
ters are Mikey J, the emcee,

"Tommy
Grogan is a
very bad im-
personator," HALL
said Hall, "but he gets bookings
because he's an excellent carpen-
ter - his day job."
Throughout the film there are
cutaways, many of them se-
quences of audience members
who are asked to say a line or two
on stage. During the filming Aug.
12 in Rehoboth, four members of
the audience took the stage and
performed their scripted lines as
directed by Hall. Other cutaways
will include scenes from a variety
of performers, including Mike
Trixx, a magician whose act

At one point in the show, Lom-
bardi and Trixx engage in what
appears to be a spur-of-the-mo-
ment battle of the magicians.
Trixx starts with a simple magic
trick with the heavy rock music
resonating throughout the room.
Not to be outdone, maestro Gemi-
ni changes his tunes to evolve into
bizarre sounds reminiscent of
1960s-style-elevator-lounge-
lizard music.
He one-ups Trixx, who blasts
back to thunderous bass with his

ing a fire act that includes swallowing fire.

next trick, and the two battle with
tunes and tricks until the final
round of competition that culmi-
nates with...'?
Whether that skit or part of it
wili'be a cutaway in the film is
not determined, but if any of the
cutaways are close to the quality
of that one, the film promises to
keep the audience enraptured.
Hall said the scripts have al-
ready been submitted to HBO,
Comedy Central and Warner
Brothers, and the filming now is
to provide a visual for each of
them. "We've got rave reviews
for the script," said Hall.
The film will be completed
soon, so Hall will meet the Sep-
tember deadline for submitting it
to the Sundance Film Festival.
He will enter it in the short film
category.
Hall also is entertaining the
idea of using the film as a pilot
