CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, August 26- September 1, 1994 -49 From The Ca e Gazette's Traveler Series* These Sussex County skaters will head to the Junior Olympic Championships in Buffalo this week, from left, Shan- non Wyatt, Paula LaPenta, Wendy Griffith and Summer Spicer. Local skaters heading national Junior Olympics Several area skaters have quali- fied to skate in the 1994 United States Junior Olympic Artistic Rollerskating Championships to be held in Buffalo, N.Y. Aug. 30 through Sept. 4. The Sussex County skaters in- clude Wendy Griffith of Seaford, Paula LaPenta of Lewes, Shannon Wyatt of Lewes, Linda Young of Ocean View and Summer Spicer of Laurel. Spicer also competed at the U.S. National Champi- onships in July. Earned placements at the 1994 Eastern Regional Championships were required for National qualifi- cation. Griffith placed fourth in Junior Olympic (JO) Level I Divi- sion C (IC) figures and third in JO IC singles, Spicer placed third in JO IA solo dance. Wyatt placed first in both JO IIA figures and singles, while LaPenta placed sec- ond in JO IIC figures and Linda Young placed second in JO IE fig- ures. According to their coaches, Rick and Debbie Slatcher of Skateworld Artistic Club, these skaters had an outstanding year. During the past year, placements were earned at: Skate City Thanksgiving Invita- tional in Manassas, Va.: Griffith, first in IC figures, first in lib figures, third in IC singles and fourth in liB singles; Spicer, first in IA solo dance, second in IIA singles and second in IIA figures; and LaPenta, first in IIC figures. Skateworld Winter Invitational, Rehoboth Beach: Griffith, first in IC figures, first in liB figures and fourth in liB singles; Spicer, second in IIA sin- gles, third in IIA figures and fourth in IA solo dance; Wyatt, first in IIA figures, first in IIA singles and first in elemen- tary singles; and LaPenta, first in IIC figures. Plaza Winter Invitational in Hamp- ton, Va: Gdffith, first in IC figures and first in liB figures; Wyatt, first in IIA fig- ures and first in IIA singles; and LaPenta, second in IIC figures. Holiday Spring Invitational in De- lanco, N.J.: Gdffith, first in IC figures; Spicer, third in IA solo dance and third in IIA singles; Wyatt, first in IIA singles and first in IIA figures; and LaPenta, first in IIC figures. Delaware Spring Invitational, Christiana: Griffith, first in IC figures and fourth in IC singles; Wyatt, first in IIA singles and first in IIA figures; and LaPenta, second in IIC figures.
