Since the addition of a bassist, drummer and keyboardist to her act in April 2000. Miner has expanded her repertoire to include a full band sound while keeping her songwriting as its tbcus. For more information about the show at Dogfish Head, call 226- BREW. In other entertainment news...The Starboard's annual closing party weekend is slated Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10-11. Owner Steve "Monty"' Montgomery said he has already received confirmation of several bus loads of people coming from the northern Virginia area. As usual, this party promises to be packed. Sunday will feature the By Jen Ellingsworth Darcie Miner, 17, began playing guitar at age 11 and performed her first stage show at 13. The Hershey, Pa. native grew up lis- tening to Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin, Emmy Lou Harris and the Allman Brothers, and still counts these among her primary influ- ences. Miner will perform with her band at 10 p.m,, Friday, Nov. 2 at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, 320 Rehoboth Ave. "Down To Earth," Miner's debut CD, was released in 2000 in her hometown. The album was hailed by critics both in the local media and throughout the region for its unique, original sound. Lauded for her prolific songwrit- ing ability and talent on guitar, Miner continues to enjoy success The Danny Morris Band will celebrate its CD release Friday, Nov. 2 at Sydney's. tradition made famous by former owner Chip Hearn of offering patrons cocktails, beer and shoot- ers for a mere $1. In addition, the Starboard will give away (yes, free stuff) almost everything it has left at the end of Sunday's closing shift. The Starboard will reopen for New Year's weekend, Thursday, Dec. 27 for breakfast, and remain open through Tuesday, Jan. 1. The Danny Morris Band will host a CD release party Friday, Nov. 2 at Sydney's Blues & Jazz Restaurant for its latest effort, "The Golden Prize." On his third CD, Morris showcases his special blend of blues, surf, jazz and retro rock, wielding his guitar like a surfboard and crooning imagina- tive songs with a vengance. A full field registered for three-day event Organizers of the 2001 World Championship Punkin' Chunkin' are warning festival goers to "beware of falling pumpkins" for this year's event, slated Nov. 2-4. The annual punkin' chunk, now in its 16th year, awards the highest honors to the team who chunks its gourd the farthest, Last year's world champion, Old Glory, hurled a pumpkin 2,127 feet. The current field of competitors is full, with 80 teams registered. No new entries are being sought. Competition is held in many d iWe'_ nt categories, includ - ing youth under 10, youth 11-17, youth division unlimited, human powered, trebuchet or sling, cata- pult, centrifugal and air cannon. This year's champ will receive the trophy and the diamond eye gold championship ring donated by Holland Jewelers of Rehoboth Beach. The punkin' chunk will be held at the intersection of Sussex 305 and 306 in Millsboro (see a com- plete schedule of events on page 74). Admission is $5. Plenty of parking is available for $1 per car. Frank Shade of Lewes, who is handling promotion and public relations for the chunk, said he has been contacted by several syn- dicated talk radio shows, includ- ing those from Raleigh, N.C., Palm Beach, Fla., Portland, Ore., Denver and Dallas.
