Lewes Christmas weekend Nov. 29-Dec. 1; parade entry deadline Nov. 19
The historic town of Lewes be-
gins its holiday season with a va-
riety of activities beginning
Thursday, Nov. 29. One of the

The Col. David Hall house, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ves-
sels, will be featured on the Annual Christmas Tour of His-
toric Lewes Dec. 1. The house is on the Historic Registry, and
retains its original woodwork, floors and plaster in the inte-
rior. The home is located at 107 Kings Highway. The prolifer-
ation of clocks throughout the house is worthy of note, and
visitors may want to time their arrival around their collec-
tive chiming.
Annual Christmas Tour of
Histodc Lewes set Dec. 1
The 28th annual Christmas
Tour of Historic Lewes will be
held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sat-
urday, Dec. !, with seven private
homes and Society museums dec-
orated for the season opening
their doors to visitors.
Tickets for the tour are avail-
able now in Lewes at the Lewes
Chamber of Commerce, the
Zwaafiendael Museum, Traders'
Jewelers, Schellenger's and
Habersham Peddler & Wildflow-
ers, and in Rehoboth at

tickets only).
Tickets on the day of the tour
will be sold at the Thompson
Country Store/Ellegood Gift
Shop, located on Third and Ship-
carpenter Street in Lewes. The
museum features a unique gift
shop brimming with special
Christmas and year-round gifts.
This year, visitors may also shop
from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec.
2 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.,

highlights of the weekend is the
annual Christmas Parade, spon-
sored jointly by the city of Lewes
and the Lewes Chamber of Com-
merce. The theme for this year's
parade on Saturday, Dec. 1, is
Babes in Toy Land.
Longtime parade chairman,
Tom King of King's Ice Cream, is
inviting all organizations and in-
dividuals to participate as entrants
in the parade. Entries must be dec-
orated - no Santas - and the dead-
line for parade entries is Nov. 19.
Trophies will be awarded in the
following categories: youth or-
ganization, equestrian, antique
car, commercial float, community
organization float, marching
group, clown and band. Applica-
tions are available at the Chamber
of Commerce office in the Fisher-
Martin House, 120 Kings High-
way, or by calling the Chamber at
645-8073.
This year's invitation to be the
parade's honorary grand marshal
was extended to Louise and Jim
Huebler in recognition of their 10
years of community involvement
in the chamber-sponsored events.
Louise recently retired after 10
years as the chamber's Visitor
Center manager.
Lewes Christmas Weekend
2001 also includes Beebe Medical
Center's Holiday of Lights cele-
bration at 5:15 p.m., Thursday,
Nov. 29, followed by the 15th an-

p.m.
Lewes Christmas Weekend also
features the Children's Beach
House Benefit Art Show and Sale,
with a preview reception on Fri-
day, Nov. 30, and the Lewes His-
torical Society-sponsored House
Tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec.
1. The art show reception and sale
is $20 per person in advance and
$25 at the door; the toiar is $12 in
advance and $15 the day of the
tour.
The parade begins at 5 p.m.,
'followed by the tree lighting in
Zwaanendael Park, Christmas
caroling and an open house re-
ception in the historic Fisher-
Martin house.
Hospitality Night entertain-
ment during the special shopping
hours on Nov. 29 will be provided
by B&hel Brass Ensemble from
Lewes' Bethel United Methodist

Mellon Bank courtyard; and the "
Cape Jazz Band, which will be
appearing in the parking lot in
front of Mugs & Stitches. Lewes
merchants will offer unique gift
ideas, displays and free refresh-
