IL Iml 14 - CAPE GAZETTE, Friday, Dec. 7 - Dec. 13, 2001 Harassment Continued fro m page 1 continued until July 2000, when Stevens allegedly did something that caused her to file a formal complaint. "He brought me two pictures of a partly dressed female," said Evans. "I don't have any problem f cking employees," she said Stevens told her. "She [the woman in the photo] used to work for me too." Evans said she later confirmed the woman in the pic- ture had indeed been a Depart- ment of Correction (DOC) em- ployee. "I was so embarrassed that I didn't tell anyone in my unit," said Evans. Later, however, two other fe- male officers found the pictures, shared that information with Evans and also provided the name of the woman in the picture. At that point, said Evans, she con- fessed her problem to the other two officers. "Then I got scared," said Evans, "because I didn't know what he [Stevens] was go- ing to do." Evans decided to place an anonymous call with the DOC's Internal Affairs Unit. Her call, she said, was taped and replayed for the warden, who recognized her voice. "Yes, Internal Affairs did contact the warden to try to deter- mine who the caller was," said Beth Welch, DOC public informa- tion officer. "This is a legitimate and often used investigative tool. Internal Affairs had received an allegation that caused them seri- ous concern. Internal Affairs needed to determine the exact na- ture of the complaint and who all might be involved." Following that, Evans said, she heard more comments from Stevens, who allegedly told her he knew about her complaint. Welch Continued on page 15 Late Obituary John E.
