Aero Energy expands services
By Mike McClure
Aero Energy has expanded its services to the Del-
marva region by opening a new office in Salisbury
last September. Aero, which has its main office in
New Oxford, Pa., offers fuel oil, propane, kerosene,
and diesel as well as a variety of services.
The Salisbury office, located at 1616 Northwood
Dr., opened Sept. I. Aero Energy's Delmarva office
currently has eight employees and services southern
Maryland and Delaware.
"'When we come into an area we want to do it
properly and keep our good reputation," said Dave
Conway, Aero Energy marketing director. "We are
involved in any community we are in, especially
with the school system and children."
According to Conway, Aero Energy tries to hire its
employees locally within a community. The compa-
ny, which was started in 1929, has offices in Havre
De Grace, Prince Frederick, and Frederick, Mary-
land and has three offices in south central Pennsylva-
nia. Thompson Washburn is the president of Aero
Energy.
"It's a growing area," Conway said of the Delmar-
va area. "We continue to grow, we feel we have a lot
to offer a customer."
Aero Energy is a full-service business that pro-
vides fuel oil, propane, diesel and kerosene. Aero
does sales and installation and prides itself on cus-
tomer service.
One of the unique services the company provides
is that customers can talk to a person - not a machine
- 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also sends
survey cards to its patrons to solicit customer input.
Among the other services Aero Energy provides is
free estimates to a home or business and budget
plans. Aero also loans underground propane tanks to
homeowners.

signs that we've got going and
ones that are coming in that are
keeping us very busy."
Bellinger said his store will be
()pen daily through the holidays,
even on Christmas Eve, to remain
accessible to last minute shoppers.
He said Bellinger's will also ex-
tend its hours to be open 9 a.m. to
6 p.m. daily.
"We're doing anything and
everything we can to accomodate
our customers and to encourage
then1 to shop locally."
Roberta Wuttke, owner of
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Fac-
tory stores in the Rehoboth Out-
lets Center 2 and Second Street in
Lewes, said for her business the
holiday season is a mixed bag.
"'Because we ot'fer consumable
products, we are not the norm,"
she said. "However. what we are
seeing are fewer people (shop-
ping), and those who are here are
spending more money."
Wuttke contributes what she
sees as an unpredictable holiday
season to factors such as the mild
weather, economic/employment
forecasts and a general fear of the
unknown among consumers.
"We're also noticing that pea-
pie, in general, want to get their
shopping done and they want to
get home," said Wuttke. "People
are coming in and looking for
comfort food items, such as candy
and really good chocolate.
They're nesting.
"We didn't know how to call it
this year. Where we are we're
seeing very quiet weekdays and
vety busy weekends. But the
minute it gets dark it's dead."

Online shopping strong
Gartner/G2, an online service that
helps strategists guide and grow
their business, reported in Octo-
ber that. "'at 25.3 billion, the fore-
cast for fourth quarter internet re-
tail sales will exceed last year's
fourth quarter total by 39 per-
cent," and contributes the increase
to factors such as an increase in
the online population and its level
of experience. Internet behe-
moths, including colossuses Ama-
zon.cam and toysrus.com, are
looking.to lure even more internet
savvy customers with the appeal
of free shipping for holiday orders
more than $99 (the offer expired
Dec. 4).
"1 am not a big shopper," said
Barbara Lee of Lewes, a mother
and owner of Thread Crafters, a
home-based embroidery business.
"I don't like dealing with crowds.
I've done almost all my shopping
this season on the internet."
However, while online gift giv-
ing may appeal to many as a time-
saver and because of its conven-
ience, there appears to be an
equally strong contingent of those
shoppers who prefer the tactile
sensation of shopping. As thou-
sands of shoppers fill parking lots
at the outlet centers along Route
1, and stroll the main streets of
Rehoboth Beach and Lewes, it is
obvious the spirit of the shopping
season has arrived even if cooler •
weather has not.
